About Active Church:
Active Church is a vibrant, non-denominational Christian church located in the heart of San Luis Obispo, CA, along California’s breathtaking Central Coast. Since its launch in 2017, under the leadership of Lead Pastor Adam Magana and his wife Stacy, Active Church has grown and flourished, now operating out of a beautiful new facility opened in 2022.
We are seeking a Youth & Young Adults Pastor to lead and disciple our middle school, high school, and young adult communities. This role is for a dynamic leader who can cultivate an engaging and life-giving ministry that helps students and young adults encounter Jesus, grow in their faith, and step into leadership within the church.
Key Responsibilities:
Youth Ministry (Middle & High School)
- Oversee and grow the youth ministry (6th-12th grade).
- Develop and lead dynamic, outreach-oriented weekly youth gatherings.
- Recruit, train, and equip a strong team of volunteer leaders and student leaders.
- Build relationships with students through personal interactions and digital engagement (social media, messaging, etc.).
- Develop a high school discipleship and leadership training program.
- Partner with local schools to engage students and create outreach opportunities.
- Communicate regularly with parents to equip them in discipling their students.
- Plan and lead special events such as retreats, camps, mission trips, and quarterly outreach events.
- Ensure the youth ministry is fun, welcoming, and engaging for all students.
Young Adults Ministry (College & 18-30s)
- Develop and lead a thriving young adults ministry for ages 18-30, both single and married.
- Plan and oversee weekly gatherings that foster connection, discipleship, and outreach.
- Organize events, service projects, and mission opportunities that deepen relationships and faith.
- Create and implement a discipleship pathway for young adults, utilizing small groups and large gatherings.
- Partner with local colleges and universities to reach unchurched young adults.
- Recruit and train volunteer leaders to assist with discipleship, evangelism, and outreach efforts.
Leadership & Ministry Development
- Create a culture of leadership by recruiting, developing, and training volunteers and student leaders.
- Oversee and manage ministry budgets, resources, and communication.
- Work collaboratively with the pastoral team to align youth and young adults ministry with the overall vision of Active Church.
- Partner with families to equip and empower them to disciple their students at home.
- Ensure safety and compliance by maintaining 100% background checks for volunteers and staff working with youth.
Outcomes & Expectations:
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all volunteers and staff working with students complete necessary background checks and training.
- Maintain a culture of safety in all youth and young adult environments.
Volunteer & Leadership Development
- Develop and execute strategies to recruit, train, and retain a strong volunteer team.
- Equip students and young adults to step into leadership and disciple others.
Ministry Growth & Engagement
- Create a yearly calendar with intentional programming that fosters growth and outreach.
- Organize engaging monthly events for families, students, and young adults.
- Ensure every student and young adult is connected in a life group.
Outreach & Discipleship
- Build bridges with the community through local schools, colleges, and outreach initiatives.
- Encourage students and young adults to invite friends and have spiritual conversations.
- Facilitate mission opportunities for both students and young adults, both locally and internationally.
Who You Are:
- A passionate follower of Jesus with a heart for the next generation.
- A strong communicator and relational leader who connects well with students, young adults, and families.
- A visionary who can build, equip, and empower teams.
- Someone who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced, and creative church environment.
- Experienced in youth or young adults ministry (preferably 3+ years).
- A team player who is committed to the mission, values, and culture of Active Church.
