Job Description:

Director of Children’s Ministry and Child Care Programs 
First Presbyterian Church of Fullerton, CA (FPC) is seeking a director to lead and grow our before and after 
school childcare program called Kids Connection and our Sunday morning children’s programs. Additionally, 
you are a mature Christian with an ongoing relationship with Jesus Christ, a heart for shepherding children, and 
will be a spiritual resource to children and families attending these FPC programs.

 
You will oversee programs where children grow in their knowledge of God as Creator, friend, and Lord of life, 
and offer a safe, educational, fun, and spiritual experience for children during the before and after-school hours 
and on Sunday mornings. 


As director, you are expected to become a member of FPC to ensure the inclusion of Kids Connection and 
Sunday School activities into the life of the church and see that all families participating in children’s programs 
know about opportunities to worship and to join in church activities.

 
Skill Requirements 
Business skills. Interview, hire and train employees and volunteers, ensuring that all background and 
fingerprint checks are completed. Prepare and monitor budgets in accordance with FPC’s budget guidelines. 
Implement and conduct record-keeping processes where required to ensure State regulatory compliance. 
Develop and implement marketing plans for Kids Connection. Deliver progress reports to the Associate Pastor 
and the Ministry Area Leadership Team (MALT Team). 
Leadership Skills. Provide daily supervision and regular evaluation of teaching/childcare staff as well as 
inspiring and motivating them to teach and nurture the children in their care.  
Show a strong desire and ability to help guide and lead children in their faith journey; to understand the church’s 
long-term vision and implement children’s activities that support it.  
Communication Skills. Prepare and deliver effective verbal and written communications to parents of Kids 
Connection and Sunday School students, teachers, and other direct reports. When needed, effectively discuss 
with parents the progress of their child including behavioral or developmental issues or concerns as observed 
by the Director or staff. Develop social media strategies.  
Relationship Management Skills. Enjoy a highly relational staff culture involving robust discussion and 
collaborative decision making. Initiate and maintain key relationships with church staff, congregation, and 
community to fulfill the overall vision of FPC. 
Develop productive relationships with Golden Hill Elementary School personnel to maximize cooperation and 
trust between the school and FPC. 
Adaptability. Be ready and willing to grow personally and professionally. Be able to work on a varied work 
schedule and have varying responsibilities each week. 


Education/Credential Requirements 
Education/Experience: Have an AA or B.A. Degree with an emphasis on early childhood education and 
elementary education or development and at least 2 years teaching experience in a licensed childcare center.  
Additional training in Spiritual formation of children is preferred. You must have completed all childcare center 
health and safety training requirements and must have current State credentials for licensure. 
  
 General Job Duties:

  • In partnership with the Grow MALT and Children/Family Ministry team, establish goals and plans for 
    childcare and children’s ministry programs to ensure they support the vision of the church.
  • Recruit advisors and volunteers to form and guide an effective Children Ministries Team.
  • Manage childcare programs ensuring that FPC meets all State licensing requirements.
  • Participate as an active and engaged member of the FPC staff and congregation.
  • Perform other tasks as requested by the Associate Pastor. 


Specific Position Tasks: 

FPC Sunday School duties

  • Working with FPC’s Financial Secretary and Grow MALT Leadership, prepare and administer a budget for 
    all Sunday morning children’s programs.
  • Plan for and oversee all program staffing, licensing, curriculum, activities, parental communications, and 
    relationships.
  • Select proper curriculum and setting for all children’s programs.
  • Ensure adequate supplies, materials and equipment are available for the program.
  • Recruit, train and schedule volunteers for all church children’s ministry program needs.
  • Be present each Sunday morning and available to support all programs.
  • Perform other tasks as requested by the Associate Pastor.

 
Child Care Duties (Kids Connection)

  • Plan for and oversee KC program including staffing, licensing, curriculum, activities, parental 
    communications, and relationships.
  • Recruit, hire, train and schedule staff and/or volunteers as needed and approved for this program.
  • Working with FPC’s Financial Secretary and Grow MALT Leadership, prepare and administer a budget.
  • Develop and implement marketing strategies to enhance program recognition and increase enrollment.
  • Maintain current documentation to meet State record requirements for enrolled children, facilities, staff, and 
    postings.
  • Select proper curriculum and program format, and ensure adequate supplies, materials and equipment are 
    available for childcare and ministry programs.
  • Attend weekly FPC staff meetings and meet regularly with FPC’s Associate Pastor and Grow MALT 
    Leadership. Be prepared to review and evaluate weekly and special events.
  • Perform other tasks as requested by the Associate Pastor. 


Accountability:

  • This position is accountable to FPC’s Associate Pastor and Grow MALT Leadership. 


Job Performance and Evaluation:

  • An initial review will be completed after the first 90 days following hire: thereafter on an annual basis. 


Hours, Pay and Benefits:

  • This is a regular exempt position requiring 32-40 hours per week.
  • Salary: $50,000-$70,000 per year depending upon experience and qualifications plus a benefits allowance.
