The Music Director is responsible for overseeing, leading, and developing all aspects of the musical direction. This role involves curating and executing original worship sets, building unique sounds, songwriting, producing demos, and programming full worship
experiences using Ableton. The Music Director will also handle recruitment, scheduling, and payments for musicians while ensuring excellence in weekend services, Tier 1 events, conferences, and major church celebrations such as Easter and Christmas. This is
NOT a worship leader position, but will work closely with those positions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Musical Leadership & Creative Development
- Lead and oversee musicians.
- Build and develop original sounds, arrangements, and musical compositions.
- Assist in Writing, produce, and recording original worship music and demos.
- Ensure the highest level of musical excellence in Weekend Experiences and tier 1 events.
Service & Event Execution
- Oversee music execution for Weekend experience and Tier 1 events, Easter, Christmas, and conferences.
- Work closely with the Director of Worship to shape the overall worship culture.
- Conduct rehearsals and prepare teams for live and recorded performances.
Administrative & Leadership Responsibilities
- Recruit, train, and develop musicians and worship team members.
- Handle scheduling, and payments for band members.
- Maintain and manage Planning Center for scheduling and team coordination.
- Communicate effectively with production teams and church leadership.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Requirements
- Proven experience in leading and managing musicians.
- Experience in large church context of 3,000 attendance or more.
- Music degree is preferred.
- Understanding of number system and lead sheets.
- Strong proficiency in Ableton Live (including timecode programming), Pro Tools, and Logic.
- Skilled in songwriting, sound design, and producing demos.
- Ability to build and execute original weekend worship sets.
- Experience in scheduling and administrating payments for musicians.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Passion for worship and a commitment to the church’s vision and values.
Personal Life
- Model biblical community in their relationships (Matt 5:23-24, Matt 18:15-17, Eph 4:25-32).
- Model biblical family life before the body (Eph 5:22-6:4).
- Model biblical integrity in all things (1 Tim 6:11-12).
Review:
The Music Director will participate in a performance review process at least annually. Performance will be measured relative to staff and church values, as well as the job description and strategic objectives previously established.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work Schedule/Environment
- Workdays – Saturday (5 hours) Sunday, Monday Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (Half Day)
- 40 hours per week (Non exempt)
