Principle Function: The Student Pastor is responsible for developing a comprehensive student ministry which will enhance the spiritual development of the church and assist it to accomplish its missions.
General Responsibilities:
1. A clear testimony of personal faith in Jesus Christ and actively continuing to seek God in life. Demonstrate a “walking in the light” life.
2. Consistent spiritual and moral character and lifestyle as described in 1 Timothy 3:1-7
3. Agreement with the doctrinal statement of First Baptist Church.
4. Competent in organization, administration and interpersonal relationships.
5. Support the pastor, staff and leadership of FBC through prayer, attendance, participation and stewardship of time, talent and resources.
6. Ability to teach groups of all sizes.
7. Help foster an attitude and atmosphere of love, joy, celebration, service, care, excellence and creativity at FBC.
8. Be positive, proactive, and appropriate in problem solving and conflict management.
9. Take responsibility. Act with integrity and honesty. Practice confidentiality where needed.
10. Attitude—100% All-in attitude and “It’s not about me” team spirit.
Specific Responsibilities as Minister of Students:
The role of the Student Pastor is divided into three parts:
a. Students (sixth grade through high school senior)
b. Sunday School Leadership
c. Parents of students.
1. Regarding Sunday School:
a. Enlist and equip leadership
b. Plan meetings for leadership
c. Organize outreach activities
d. Develop new units
2. Coordinate Wednesday night outreach events for students.
3. Coordinate retreats, camps, mission opportunities.
4. Work with parents of students – involve parents in various events, providing conferences, and offering support groups.
5. Develop a regional student ministry mind-set which will encompass the various school campuses.
6. Be highly visible on all school campuses and be available to school administrative personnel.
7. Be supportive (verbally and visually) of various church ministries and staff responsible for those ministries.
8. Perform other duties as assigned.
Education:
Master’s degree in theology or related field preferred. Bachelor’s degree with relevant experience considered.
Experience:
At least 5 years of experience working in student ministry.
