Our Church

Berkeley Covenant Church is a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church of America and is located between the more economically diverse areas of central and west Berkeley. We focus on being a Jesus-centered church; devoted to lived Christian discipleship; being a people who love, serve, and reach out to those around us.

 Job Summary

The Pastor of Worship and Outreach is a full-time position. The primary thrust of this role will be twofold: a) partnering with the Senior Pastor to create a worshipful atmosphere that includes music, scripture, reading, and prayer; b) Leading the church to reach out to those outside the church with the love of Christ. It is our hope that this person will be led less by a title and more by the gifting of the Holy Spirit.

Worship Focus:

  • Model and lead heartfelt worship in an invitational style that draws people in, encourages participation, and points people to Jesus
  • Plan Sunday worship services, working with volunteers to choose music that engages our congregation and supports the preaching of God’s Word
  • Plan and coordinate special services following the church calendar and the needs of the congregation
  • Recruit and teach musicians to serve the congregation with musical skill and humility
  • Coordinate weekly worship teams (PPT, sound, communion, musicians)
  • Maintain CCLI license(s)

Outreach Focus:

  • Partner with Senior Pastor and staff to build and maintain a culture that is centered around Jesus in discipleship, love, and service
  • Together with the Senior Pastor, develop and lead the church into Christ-like engagements with our neighbors and community, both in outreach and service
  • Identify and develop future leaders in the church
  • Occasional but regular preaching
