Job Summary:
The Lead Pastor will serve as the spiritual leader of a growing non-denominational church, providing visionary leadership, teaching, and pastoral care. The Lead Pastor will work closely with the church leadership team to fulfill the church’s mission and vision, ensuring that all aspects of church life—worship, preaching, teaching, discipleship, outreach, and ministry—are in alignment with Biblical principles and values. This role requires someone who is deeply committed to the spiritual growth of the congregation, equipping others for ministry, evangelism to the southern Arizona area, and the support of missions throughout the Sierra Vista region and beyond.
Key Responsibilities:
Preaching & Teaching:
Lead the church by providing Biblically sound, relevant, and engaging preaching that challenges and encourages spiritual growth.
Develop and deliver inspiring and life-transforming sermons that connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Oversee leaders of Bible studies, small groups, and other teaching opportunities, fostering a culture of discipleship and Biblical literacy.
Guide the spiritual formation of the congregation, helping members deepen their faith and understanding of Scripture.
Visionary Leadership:
Collaborate with church leadership to establish, communicate, and implement a clear vision and mission for the church that aligns with its values.
Inspire, motivate, and equip the church staff, ministry leaders, and volunteers to carry out the church’s vision effectively.
Lead strategic planning and church growth initiatives, ensuring that all ministries reflect the church’s Biblical priorities and mission.
Pastoral Care:
Provide spiritual guidance, counseling, and support to individuals and families within the congregation, responding to pastoral needs such as grief, illness, and life transitions.
Offer personalized, compassionate care, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for members to grow spiritually.
Oversee pastoral care teams and ensure that ministry leaders are equipped to serve the needs of the congregation.
Worship Oversight:
Collaborate with worship leaders and teams to ensure meaningful, God-honoring worship services.
Participate in worship planning and, balancing teaching and worship as complementary aspects of congregational life.
Encourage and foster a culture of creative worship through music, prayer, and other expressions of faith.
Team Leadership & Staff Development:
Lead, mentor, and support staff members, fostering a collaborative and cohesive ministry team.
Develop and equip ministry leaders to carry out their roles effectively, ensuring they have the tools and support needed for success.
Provide pastoral guidance and leadership for church staff, fostering an atmosphere of respect, communication, and professional growth.
Community Outreach & Evangelism:
Lead the church in outreach efforts, focusing on serving the local community and making the gospel known through practical actions and evangelistic initiatives.
Encourage congregational involvement in local and global missions, fostering a culture of service and love for others.
Build and nurture relationships with local leaders, churches, and organizations to strengthen the church’s role within the broader community.
Administration & Governance:
Lead and support the church’s administrative processes, including budgeting, financial oversight, and resource allocation, working with the church leadership team and board.
Oversee church policies, governance, and operations to ensure the church functions smoothly and aligns with its vision and values.
Participate in church meetings, leadership discussions, and decision-making processes.
Spiritual and Personal Growth:
Commit to personal spiritual growth, maintaining a strong relationship with God through prayer, study, and accountability.
Model integrity, humility, and Christ-centered living in both public and private life.
Encourage and foster spiritual growth in others, leading by example in all areas of life and ministry.
Qualifications:
Education: A seminary or Bible college degree (Master of Divinity or equivalent) preferred, or significant experience in church leadership and pastoral ministry.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years preferred in lead or associate pastoral leadership with a proven track record of teaching, leadership, and church growth.
Skills:
Excellent preaching and teaching ability with a deep understanding of Scripture.
Strong leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to inspire and lead others effectively.
Demonstrated ability to provide pastoral care and counseling with compassion and sensitivity.
Strong organizational and administrative skills, with experience in budgeting and church management.
Ability to connect with a diverse congregation and communicate effectively across age groups and backgrounds.
