ABOUT FBC MCPHERSON

FBC McPherson, is a Gospel-centered church that seeks to make the Good News of Jesus known and accessible through our welcoming environment, Biblical teaching, and missional engagement with our community.

We have a great church family of about 200 in weekly attendance, that spans across multiple generations, and we are located in a great area about an hour from Wichita.

JOB SUMMARY

Simply put, the Youth Minister will love Jesus and love students! This person will oversee the youth ministries of the church (grades 6-12). This role requires someone who is able to shepherd and disciple students through relational, incarnational ministry. We are seeking a creative individual who can design and implement innovative programming and engaging ministry that connects with students and encourages their spiritual growth. This person will recruit, train and empower volunteers as well as care for students through evangelism, counseling and pastoral care.

 

The Youth Minister is a full time position that will report to the Lead Pastor and is accountable to the Youth Board.

Spiritual Requirements

  • Strong Christian faith that displays a high-integrity lifestyle aligned with Biblical standards
  • Healthy spiritual life that includes regular spiritual disciplines and active pursuit of God’s wisdom, presence and guidance
  • Called to ministry and affirms and supports the Doctrinal Statement of FBC McPherson
  • Embodies a healthy rhythm of rest, self-care and (if relevant) time with their own family.

 

Professional Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree related to ministry, or previous youth ministry experience is desired
  • Humble, teachable and relatable. Able to connect with students, parents, staff, and the local community
  • Eager to grow and develop God-given gifts and professional capabilities and skills, in order to be most effective in Kingdom work
  • A creative, pioneering spirit. Willing to find new ways to engage students both in the church and in the community
  • Gifted communicator, who is able to teach students, ensures parents are informed, and celebrates to the whole church how God is moving in student ministry

 

Core Responsibilities

  • Carry out the church’s policies and programs for grades 6-12
  • Collaborate weekly with church staff and volunteers
  • Assess youth needs and work closely with the Senior Pastor and Youth Board to identify effective ministry strategies
  • Present recommendations for new and innovative student programs and activities. Coordinate with other ministries and the All Church Council as appropriate.
  • Manage the the youth budget
  • Develop and implement:
    • An effective evaluation process for the youth ministry
    • Goal-setting for the youth ministry, consistent with the overall church goals
    • An appropriate balance of evangelism and discipleship
  • Give overall direction to all youth functions (e.g., Wednesday and Sunday evening meetings, Sunday School, mission trips, camps, etc.). This includes…
    • Recommendations for selecting, planning and evaluating curriculum
    • Coordinating room assignments and facilities usage with the Youth Board, Christian Education Deacon, and other users of our facilities
    • Oversight of the planning, organizing and training, as necessary, for mission trips, camps and other activities
  • Recruit, train, evaluate and counsel youth volunteers
  • Work in cooperation with youth and their parents by…
    • Connecting with students on a regular basis outside of church programs (e.g., attending school events)
    • Provide counseling and support to students and their families as appropriate
    • Host regular parent meetings, in order to cast vision, receive feedback, share upcoming event information, etc.
  • Assist in providing a friendly and welcoming environment, both within the student ministry and beyond, by connecting with members and guests in a warm and positive manner
  • Create and share regular reports…
    • Communication and updates regarding the youth program to the congregation at business meetings
    • Attendance and representation of the youth ministry at all staff meetings
    • Attend monthly All Church Council meetings as an ex officio member and give updates on the youth program
    • As an ex officio member of the Youth Board, work with the chairperson to report monthly activities and finalize upcoming youth ministry agendas
  • Collaborate with the community, denomination, and local churches regarding youth ministry initiatives, whenever possible and beneficial
  • Regularly pursue personal growth through scheduling time for study, personal devotions, ministry enrichment, spiritual renewal and vacation.

 

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary depends upon experience. Compensation range is from $60,000-80,000
