CATM is located in Spartanburg County, South Carolina. Nestled in the Upstate of South Carolina, Spartanburg is at the foothills of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, which offers close access to many hiking and outdoor activities. The Atlantic Coast is a quick three-hour drive as well. Spartanburg County is positioned directly between Charlotte, NC and Atlanta, GA, which affords residents easy access to large metropolis attractions while maintaining a lower cost of living in the suburbs. It is home to just over 350,000 residents of diverse backgrounds, including a vibrant international community.

Staff Position Title: Pastor of Senior Adults

The Pastor of Senior Adults will be a passionate and energetic individual who provides vision, leadership, and pastoral care for individuals aged 55 and older, ensuring they are actively engaged, encouraged, and discipled within Church at The Mill. This role aligns with the church’s core values—Gather, Grow, Give, and Go—by fostering spiritual growth, community, and service opportunities for senior adults.

The ideal candidate will be a passionate follower of Jesus Christ with strong relational and leadership skills and will have opportunities to lead senior adults to thrive in their senior years. This individual will find effective ways to strategically:

• Develop and lead a comprehensive Senior Adults Ministry that supports spiritual growth and fellowship.
• Organize and oversee Small Groups, Mentor Groups, and Equipping Classes tailored for senior adults.
• Provide pastoral care and biblical counseling, ensuring the spiritual and emotional well-being of senior adults.
• Encourage involvement in missions, outreach, and on-campus serving opportunities.
• Collaborate with church leadership to integrate senior adults into the broader ministry vision of CATM.

Reports To: Pastor of Adult Ministries

Responsibilities:

• Provide strategic vision and leadership for the Senior Adults Ministry.
• Partner with the Adult Discipleship Pastor to identify, recruit, and launch Senior Adult Ministry leaders and volunteers to serve as Small Group leaders and Mentor Group leaders.
• Support, encourage, and train senior adult Small Group leaders and Mentor Group leaders.
• Assist senior adult visitors and members in joining Small Groups and Mentor Groups.
• Help senior adults discover and engage in service opportunities within the church.
• Encourage and equip senior adults to participate in both local and international missions.
• Develop and leverage the gifts and insights of a Senior Adult Lead Team.
• Work with the Pastor of Pastoral Care to provide support, encouragement, and hope to senior adults who may be struggling.
• Provide counseling and discipleship to two to four senior adults on an ongoing basis.
• Teach a Wednesday night Equipping Class on topics related to senior adult discipleship.
• Develop and lead a team responsible for organizing quarterly Senior Adult Gatherings, including one off-site trip and a Christmas gathering.
• Oversee and supervise the Sanctuary Team.
• Attend weekly staff meetings, Adult Team Meetings, and other meetings as required.

Preferred Competencies:

• Biblically sound and spiritually mature, with an ongoing commitment to personal spiritual growth.
• Experience in leading and developing Senior Adult Ministries.
• Demonstrated ability to recruit, train, and sustain volunteers.
• Strong organizational and leadership skills.
• Highly relational, with the ability to connect with senior adults and their families.
• Excellent communication and teaching abilities.
• Collaborative and team-oriented approach to ministry.

Preferred Experience:

• Minimum of three years of pastoral experience in Senior Adult Ministry or related fields.
• Experience leading Senior Adult Small Groups and ministry programs

Preferred Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in an area of concentration that has equipped them for vocational ministry.
• Seminary degree is preferred.
