PURPOSE: The Director of Children and Family Ministries is a counselor, teacher, minister, and friend to the families of our church. He/she oversees ministries related to children and families. To accomplish this, the Director strives to:
- Love our children and be motivated to share faith in Christ with them.
- To share the love of God made known through the Gospel to our children.
- Inspire our children to love God for who He is.
- Teach children about who God is by reading the scriptures.
- Inspire children to love the Church and their neighbor.
- Develop a fun and interactive program of fellowship, music, and Bible-based Christian education for grades 6 and below.
- Pray for and encourage all the children and families of our church and CFC.
- Build and encourage a volunteer team in engaging children’s ministry and education.
- Celebrate a closer connection between young families and church life by fostering communication, offering help and sharing the love of Jesus together.
- Create opportunities for children and their families to actively live in the kingdom of God, helping them feel embraced and valued by the church and CFC.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Works under the guidance of the Children and Family Ministries Team and reports directly to the Senior Pastor as Head of Staff. He/she may work with the Director of the Center for Children (CFC) to provide spiritual leadership for this vibrant, full-time day care program.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: A mature Christian, who loves children and family ministry, has experience in organizing multiple programs and working with a large team of volunteers. B.A., B.S., or higher degree is preferred. Theological training preferred. The Director is required to submit to and pass a fingerprint check in accordance with the State of California and Church personnel procedures for employees working with children.
HOURS: This position is a full-time, non-exempt position. The scheduling of hours shall be the joint responsibility of the Director, the Senior Pastor, the Moderator of the Children and Family Ministries Team, and the CFC Director, as appropriate.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Planning and implementing the following, and any other new ministries developed by the Director, Children and Family Ministries Team, and the CFC Director, as appropriate:
- Develop and maintain a Sunday morning discipleship program for children of nursery age through sixth grade. This involves selecting, creating and preparing lessons (leveraging curriculum provided by external resources, as appropriate), and organizing volunteers.
- Oversee the mid-week PEAK program for children of nursery age through sixth grade. This involves selecting, creating and preparing lessons (leveraging curriculum provided by external resources, as appropriate), and organizing volunteers.
- Collaborate with the CFC Director, Children and Family Ministries and Student Ministries to continue creating opportunities to meaningfully engage the children and families of CFC in a walk with God by hosting chapel times and partnering for events and activities.
- Coordinate care in the nursery and toddler room on Sunday mornings and mid-week PEAK.
- Prepare and deliver a monthly children’s sermon, currently the first Sunday of the month in our combined service as well as other worship services such as Christmas Eve, Easter Sunday, etc.
- Plan, implement and oversee Vacation Bible School and other summer programs for children.
- In collaboration with the Children and Family Ministries Team and CFC Team, plan and implement bimonthly/monthly events and service projects for children and their families.
- Create the bridge between CFC and LCPC to find radical and enduring ways that LCPC can bring joy, support, and the love of God to our CFC families.
- Provide programs, education and support for families of the church, CFC and ABIDE to strengthen and nurture families and make God the center.
- Facilitate volunteer recruitment and training for Children and Family Ministries planning, encouragement, nurture, education, and mutual discipleship.
- Promote Ministry programs and events through good parent communication, social media, outreach, etc.
- Proactively engage families with young and adolescent children in the Foothills community and seek to understand their needs via survey, conversation and small group feedback loops. Use this feedback to foster relationships between the community and LCPC with the goal of expanding God's kingdom.
- Incorporate children’s worship music throughout the year.
- Attend in-person weekly Church staff meeting.
- Facilitate monthly Children and Family Ministries Team meeting.
- Attend periodic meetings with the Pastor.
- Other duties as needed or assigned.
EVALUATION: A performance and compensation review will be conducted annually by one or more members of the Personnel Committee, the Senior Pastor, the Moderator of the Children and Family Ministries Team, and the CFC Director, in accordance with LCPC Personnel policies.
COMPENSATION: Hourly wage $24-$27 per hour.
