Job Title: Worship Music Leader

Position Overview
The Worship Leader is responsible for working with the senior pastor and worship committee in designing, planning, preparing and providing inspiring music for regularly scheduled Sunday morning service as well as other special services of the church throughout the year.
Job Responsibilities
- Work with the senior pastor and worship committee to provide praise music and other special music during the regularly scheduled Sunday morning service as well as other special services of the church throughout the year.
- Lead the singing of praise songs and other hymns during regularly scheduled Sunday morning service as well as other special services of the church
- Select praise songs for weekly Sunday worship service in consultation with the senior pastor.
- If able, provide musical accompaniment for all worship services (piano, keyboard or organ)
- If able, train and prepare the church Chancel choir to provide bi-monthly performances during Sunday morning worship services and, if needed, on special occasions (i.e. Good Friday, Christmas Eve).
- If able, plan and prepare special musical offerings for Easter and Christmas and other special Sundays (i.e. Homecoming Sunday, Thanksgiving Sunday, & Church Anniversary.)
- If able, be available to be hired as an accompanist at weddings, funerals and memorial services.
- Recruit and incorporate vocalists and instrumentalists of all ages from the congregation to participate in the music program.
- When needed, recruit and incorporate professional vocalists and/or instrumentalists from outside to enhance the musical offerings in the church as needed. (Separate budget will be provided)
- Be responsible for materials, instruments and equipment pertaining to the music program of the church including organ and pianos. Music sheets or scores purchased with the church budget are the properties of CUMC and, therefore, must be returned to the church when the employment ends.
- Secure substitutes to provide music leadership when needed.
Skills and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in music, is desired but not required.
- Must have a good singing voice and enjoy singing
- Must possess a good knowledge and broad repertoire of the contemporary Christian praise songs and traditional hymns
- Must possess musical proficiency to lead the congregation in singing praise songs as well as hymns (United Methodist Hymns) during worship services
- The ability to play a keyboard or guitar is highly preferred but not required.
- Demonstrates a collegial and productive approach to work with others, including the Senior Pastor, choir members, musicians, staff and congregants.
- Must have good social and communication skills
- Must possess a team spirit to work effectively with the senior pastor, other musicians and choir members
- Be committed to support the ministry vision of the church.
- Be sensitive to the worship needs of the congregation.

Compensation:
- Pay per service or salary depending on the qualification, experience and proficiency
- The amount and type of compensation will vary depending on the service(s) the person can provide (i.e. the ability to play piano/keyboard/organ during the worship service, the ability to lead in the congregational singing, the ability to train and work with the choir and provide bi-weekly anthem performance during Sunday morning worship service and other special occasions.)
