The Senior Pastor provides spiritual leadership to ECF by overseeing worship, teaching,pastoral care, financial stewardship and outreach efforts to fulfill the church’s mission of making disciples and serving the English-Speaking community in the Costa Rican
Central Valley. The ideal candidate for this position is a dedicated Christ-follower gifted by the Spirit as a shepherd, preacher, teacher and leader.
ECF needs a Senior Pastor who leans into God like David, is bold like Nehemiah and teaches like Ezra.
- Key Responsibilities
- Worship Leadership
- Plan, prepare, and deliver excellent biblically sound messages.
- Coordinate with ECF team members to execute Spirit-filled, motivating weekly worship experiences aligned with the church’s mission, values and statement of faith.
- Vision and Mission
- Collaborate with the council and leadership team to implement the church’s vision and mission.
- Develop strategies to grow and sustain the church’s ministries.
- Communication & Marketing
- Ensure regular communication with the council and congregation, including weekly all-church email and monthly reports to council and key ministry leaders.
- Review and modify information appearing in the Church Center App, as needed.
- Oversee ECF’s Social Media team and ensure engaging and appropriate internet profile.
- Administration and Leadership
- Model servant leadership in all aspects of ECF life, engagements and activities.
- Supervise church staff, ministry teams and volunteers, ensuring effective ministry operations.
- Oversee the church’s budget and participate in financial planning.
- Coordinate weekly finances regarding cash flow and weekly expenses.
- Ensure compliance with church policies and governance structures.
- Disciple-Making & Community Engagement
- Lead & develop teaching for disciples.
- Shepherd leaders for Youth and Kids Groups, Community Groups, Women’s Groups, Men’s Groups, and 55+ Groups.
- Be available for pastoral counseling when needed.
- Represent the church in the local community and foster outreach efforts.
- Qualifications
- Spiritual Qualifications
- A committed follower of Jesus Christ with a passion for ministry.
- Strong knowledge of and adherence to Scripture.
- Educational Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in theology, ministry, or a related field (Master of Divinity preferred).
- Experience
- At least 5 years of pastoral or ministry leadership experience preferred.
- Experience in a multicultural setting, preferably in ministry.
- Proven ability to lead and grow a church or ministry.
- Skills and Abilities
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Effective in conflict resolution and counseling.
- Skilled in teaching, preaching, and discipleship.
- Excellent communication (spoken & written) in English, conversational Spanish highly preferred.
- Location:
- Requires the ability to relocate to San Jose, Costa Rica.
