Job Title: Music and Student Director

Reports to: Senior Pastor

Job Overview: 

The full-time Music and Student Pastor role will provide leadership and support for the overall ministerial and spiritual development of the Grace Church music team and student ministries. God’s candidate for this position will develop a ministry in music that honors the old and the new while leading everyone into the presence of God together. Leadership in the student ministry will lead and develop the students in the learning of the Bible, personal application of God’s word in their own lives and responding to the call of God in service.

Job Description:

  • Support the mission of Grace to “Lead others into a growing relationship with Christ” through engagement with but not limited to overseeing a team of volunteers in the Youth Ministry, Children Ministry and Music Ministry.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work as part of the team of volunteers, the pastor, church staff, elders and council members.
  • Train and equip others musically and to lead the church into a worshipful atmosphere using contemporary and traditional music, and instruments:
    • Hold weekly rehearsals.
    • Equip and train volunteers.
    • Coordinate song selection with the pastor.
  • Take an active and leading role in the youth ministry:
    • Teach and preach the Word of God in a way that is engaging and relevant to the youth.
    • Organize and participate in an annual youth retreat and or missions work.
    • Connect with the youth relationally and foster healthy interpersonal relationships among the youth.
  • Take a lead role in execution of the children ministries:
    • Choose curriculum
    • Recruit and schedule teachers and assistants
    • Lead and participate in a Vacation Bible Experience or its equivalent

General Responsibilities:

  • The right fit for this role will be eager to embrace a wide range of responsibilities that come with ministry in a small rural community. As any ministry grows, ministry positions evolve from being “generalists” to “specialists.” We need someone who can embrace the general ministry duties now and grow with us in specializing as the ministry grows. These general ministry duties may include the following:
  • Communications (social media, website, advertising)
  • Preaching opportunities
  • Community meetings
  • Filling in where your gifts and talents best fit
  • Commit to managing your time in a way that demonstrates God, Family and Church are your priorities—in that order
  • Manage work time efficiently and honestly even without supervision
  • Attend weekly staff meetings
  • Be accountable

Desired Qualifications:

  • Character:
    • Having accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and keeping with the character qualifications as identified in the Holy Bible. Make holiness your greatest pursuit at home, in the community, at church and in private. Exhibit the attributes of humility and spiritual fruit as described in Galatians 5:22-26,But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking, and envying each other.”
  • Leadership:
    • Experience leading volunteers in a ministry context.
    • Commit to an Ephesians 4:11-16 philosophy of ministry to be an equipper of others for ministry.
  • Experience:
    • At least 5 years of ministry experience preferred. Experience selecting, arranging, and executing Sunday service music and selecting a team of vocalists and musicians for each service. Proficient vocalist and instrumentalist with experience training and equipping volunteers; familiar with Planning Center, various media platforms and audio/visual technologies.
    • Experience developing an engaging children’s ministry; selecting appropriate curriculum and training teams to execute the curriculum.
    • Experience developing and engaging with youth through a comprehensive youth ministry focused on developing their spiritual health.
  • Education:
    • A bachelor's degree in music and or Youth and Family ministries is desired.
