About the Role:
As the Technical Director, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of our Audio, Video, and Lighting (AVL) systems, volunteers, and operations, primarily focusing on creating dynamic and engaging weekend worship experiences. Beyond Sunday services, you will also play a key role in supporting special events, including weddings and funerals, ensuring every event runs smoothly from a technical perspective. This role requires a blend of technical proficiency, leadership skills, and a genuine desire to serve.
Responsibilities:
- Weekend Experience Production: Lead and oversee all technical elements (audio, video, and lighting) for weekend services, including operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of all related equipment. Serve as Service Production Director (SPD), ensuring seamless execution of the technical elements within the service flow and effective communication with the volunteer team. Initially, you will regularly operate key positions (e.g., FOH) while developing the volunteer team to eventually transition to an as-needed or occasional basis.
- Team Development: Recruit, train, develop, and mentor a team of technical volunteers for weekend services, special events, weddings, and funerals. The goal is to build depth in each position (ideally three deep). Provide basic technical training to other ministry volunteers (e.g., children's ministry, youth group). Provide spiritual leadership and care for the well-being of the volunteer team.
- Technical Systems Management: Maintain and oversee all AVL equipment for all ministries at Coastal Life Church, including system maintenance, research, recommendations, and acquisition of new equipment.
- Collaboration and Communication: Attend weekly weekend service planning and review meetings, campus staff meetings, and other designated meetings. Collaborate effectively with staff and ministry leaders to understand their technical needs and provide solutions.
- Spiritual Leadership: Provide spiritual leadership and genuine care for the well-being of your staff and volunteers.
Qualifications:

- Commitment to Coastal Life Church's mission, vision, and core values.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to cast vision, shepherd a team, and oversee administrative tasks.
- Proven ability to recruit, train, and develop volunteers.
- Technical proficiency in audio mixing (including broadcast and studio environments), lighting programming and operation, video presentation, and presentation software.
- Experience with Ableton.
- Knowledge and skills in stage set building and design.
- Ability to troubleshoot technical issues quickly and efficiently, ensuring smooth service flow.
- Proficiency with Planning Center Online.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize effectively.
- A proactive and self-motivated approach to work.
- A commitment to continuous learning and staying current with advancements in the technical field.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
- Must be able to climb stairs, ladders, and scaffolding without a fear of heights.
