JOB DESCRIPTION – RELATIONSHIP LEADER
Position Summary: The Relationship Leader of First Baptist Church is a part-time position (20 hours per week) that exists to collaborate with the church family and ministry volunteers to build and lead a ministry of relationships. The main goals of this Ministry are to support growth of individual relationships with Jesus Christ, to encourage one-on-one shepherding relationships, and to develop small groups for Bible study, prayer, fellowship, and service. Anticipated results are growth in spiritual maturity, and in life-giving connections, both within the church and extending into the community.
Requirements:
- A passion for people, relationships, and nurturing of families
- Excellent people, organizational, time management and communication skills
- Ability to recruit, lead and motivate volunteers
- Social media experience
- Experience in modeling a passion for worship, personal Bible study, vibrant prayer life, and meaningful fellowship with others
Expectations:
- Collaborates with existing direction, goals, and vision of the congregation
- Works in a collegial style with volunteers, families, and church staff
- Welcomes and accepts persons with diverse theological beliefs (soul freedom)
- Follows a model of Christian living, that people in the church and community can identify and respect
- Balances this part time position with any other non-First Baptist Church employment responsibilities
Responsibilities:
- Engage children, youth, young adults, and families in spiritual growth and church involvement
- Listen and develop close, caring relationships within the church and in the community
- Identify, train, and lead volunteers in relationship ministry
- Initiate ideas with and work within the structures of Christian Education, Congregational Care, and Missions Ministries
- Plan, direct, and lead creative, fun, and enriching youth activities and programming
- Connect with youth and children through existing, as well as new activities and programming
- Take Note Children’s Choir (existing)
- Shepherds Among Us Program (new)
- Youth Group (dormant)
- Youth Retreats (existing)
- Church Camps (American Baptist Churches of Michigan affiliated - Higher Ground at Lake Louise and Camp Lael)
- Sunday School (existing)
- Service Projects (existing)
- Community Outreach (existing)
- Mission Trips (building)
Financial:
- Adheres to positional assigned budget
- Assists in controlling expenses of First Baptist Church
Staff Member:
- Periodically attends Staff meetings, Church Council meetings, Ministry meetings and Congregational meetings to assure support and report progress
- Effectively partners with Lead Pastor, Office Personnel, and other mentors to carry out the vision, mission and core values of First Baptist Church of Midland, Michigan
- Observes and upholds ordinances, Bylaws, and policies and procedures adopted by First Baptist Church of Midland, Michigan
- Commits to the “Covenant and Code of Ethics for Ministerial Leaders of American Baptist Churches, USA” (https://ministerscouncil.com/resources/covenant/2023-covenant.pdf)
- Identifies and cooperates with other local churches in appropriate ecumenical opportunities
