Job Description:

Sycamore Creek Church in Pickerington, Ohio, is a rooted, family centered, growing community in one of the fastest growing areas in the midwest! For thirty years now Sycamore has continued to grow alongside the city that it’s in striving to change the world by changing lives through the ministry that it offers. The church is led by Steve Markle, who became the Lead Pastor 14 years ago, and as the staff continues to grow and develop, they are searching for a new Student Pastor! 

Engaging around 600 regular attendees every Sunday morning, they currently have a thriving student ministry that is looking for its next full time leader! Their 7th-12th grade ministry, The Well, sees around 70 students every Sunday night and over 100 students in the course of a month. The Well’s mission statement is, “from the well to the world” based on the story of Jesus and the woman at the well in John chapter 4. On a weekly basis you can expect to find a group of students hungry for worship, sound teaching, small group time, and of course tons of fun! We also have a growing Sunday morning ministry called Diversion for 5th and 6th grade students! 

Sycamore is seeking the right candidate to take over as their new Student Pastor to oversee the entire direction and ministry for students 5th-12th grade. The right candidate for this job will have a deep personal relationship with Jesus along with a passion for preaching, discipleship, and seeing this generation change the world! Below you will find the responsibilities and qualifications that Sycamore has identified for this role: 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Leadership and Program Development: 

  • Lead and direct the Student Ministry program for grades 5th-12th by creating and sustaining a vibrant, engaging, and spiritually focused environment for students to grow in their faith and in community with others through weekly programming and events.
  • Create engaging and relevant teaching that challenges students and pushes them to deepen their relationship with Christ and develop their spiritual gifts.  
  • Build strong relationships with all students, actively reaching out to newcomers, and fostering an environment where everyone feels welcomed and cared for.
  • Develop, train, and encourage a dedicated team of adult leaders that help to carry out the week to week needs of the Student Ministry program. Effectively communicate and collaborate with your team of volunteers to ensure a unified vision. 
  • Lead annual events such as spring retreats, summer camps, etc.  

Spiritual Guidance: 

  • Model a consistent lifestyle of following Jesus that allows for you to be above reproach. 
  • Adhere to the doctrine of Sycamore Creek Church. 
  • Fulfill the biblical qualifications of leadership as stated in Titus 1:5-9 and 1 Timothy 3. 

Community Engagement: 

  • Collaborate with church staff and other ministries to ensure that the Student Ministry aligns with the overall mission and vision of Sycamore Creek Church.
  • Engage with parents and families regularly, providing support, resources, and communication that encourages and prioritizes their involvement in their student’s spiritual growth.  

QUALIFICATIONS: 

General: 

  • A deep, personal, consistent commitment to Christ and an undeniable passion for students and an ability to communicate Biblical truths in an engaging and relevant way. 
  • An attitude of continuous growth and personal learning. Seeking out new ideas and methods to improve the Student Ministry program.
  • Always striving to work with a team and recognize the importance of collaboration when it comes to working on a church staff and leading a ministry. 
  • An ability to provide doctrinally sound answers to difficult questions and topics that students are going to ask on a weekly basis. This allows for students to feel challenged, encouraged, and equipped to tackle the challenges of their day to day lives. 

Education: A bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred, though not required. 

Experience: At least a year of experience in leading a student ministry or leading in a significant role is ideal, though not required.

Our journey began with a small group of 15 people meeting in Pickerington Square Shopping Center in 1995. From there, Sycamore Creek grew quickly and relocated to our current 15 acre property on Refugee Road next to Pickerington North High School.
