Job Title: Worship Pastor
Supervises: Audio Director, Production Manager, Technical Staff, Volunteers
Category: Exempt: Full-time, Salaried, Executive Staff
About the Worship Pastor:
Cornerstone Ministries’ Worship Pastor is responsible for leading the worship and creative arts elements of all church-wide services, working closely with the Senior Pastor in service planning. Using creativity in crafting worship experiences, the Worship Pastor develops teams of artists in music, media, and dramatic arts ministry. The Worship Pastor also supports other ministries by developing teams of artists in music, media, and dramatic arts to provide gifted worship leaders for other ministries of the church.
Worship Duties:
- Oversee and shepherd the growth, development, and effectiveness of the staff, goals, volunteers, organization, methods, and practices of the worship arts department as related to the goals and vision of Cornerstone Ministries.
- Craft weekend services in the areas of drama, music, and creative arts.
- Develop teams of gifted musicians, vocalists, and other artists.
- Host and lead weekly and special worship rehearsals.
- Work with the Senior Pastor and creative teams in developing the creative process for weekly series and message themes.
- Work to create processes and strategies that allow for collaboration, long-range planning, and effective communication with all other teams regarding the weekend services and special events.
- Participate in special events in the life of the church as needed. This will include services for Christmas Eve, weddings, funerals, and occasional Wednesday evening worship services.
- Assist in the development of the children and youth worship sets.
- Serve as mentor to younger worship leaders and provide worship ministry internship opportunities.
Volunteer Supervision Duties:
- Recruit volunteers, build teams, and collaborate with others.
- Invite, Instruct, Inspire, and Invest in volunteers to serve as members of the Worship and Arts Teams.
- Develop systems to equip volunteers in cooperation with the Equipping Ministry Team.
- Continually provide opportunities to involve volunteers in ministry.
- Develop a clear process for welcoming, equipping, and utilizing volunteer teams.
- Engage in professional development opportunities by attending workshops, seminars, and other churches at least once per year.
Financial Responsibilities:
- Develop the annual ministry budget.
- Adhere to financial guidelines and approved budget.
Qualifications, Skills, and Gifts:
- Minimum Bachelor's Degree in music or related degree preferred.
- Previous local church or relevant denominational ordination required.
- 3-4 years of experience preferred.
- Experience using Planning Center preferred.
- Gifted in the areas of music and creative arts.
- Ability to competently play piano and/or guitar.
- Accomplished vocalist with good pitch, tone, projection, and excellent musicianship. (Ability to chart and incorporate multiple instruments and understanding of music theory.)
- Technically proficient in using click/guide/loops, DAW, Multitracks, or similar software.
- Ability to meet prescribed goals as established by the church.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Proven initiative with a desire to continually grow and pursue excellence.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to interact with multiple people with grace and enthusiasm.
- Excellent leadership skills for relating to the pastoral staff, co-workers, and volunteers.
- Prompt and efficient.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- A growing commitment to Jesus Christ, reflected in personal Bible study, prayer, moral integrity, humility, and the fruits of the Spirit.
- Ability to offer spiritual guidance to a congregation through prayer, calls to worship, and devotional messages.
- A genuine love for worship and a calling to lead others into a deeper experience of worship.
Additional Requirements:
- Become a cleared adult through Cornerstone’s Safe Place Certified Policy and complete Criminal Clearance and Child Abuse Clearance (Act 33/34).
- Active member of Cornerstone.
