Journey Church is a fast growing church located on the southwest side of Omaha, NE. The church launched in 2009 in a high school, and moved into their new and permanent location in 2022. The church is led by Lead Pastor Phil Human, who is the founding pastor. Journey currently offers three identical modern worship styled services at 8:00a, 9:30a and 11:00a on Sunday mornings. The church is currently seeing around 800 in total Sunday morning attendance, which has over doubled in the past two years.

An evangelism philosophy for Journey is wanting to talk TO unbelievers and not just ABOUT unbelievers. They know skeptical people will be in the room.  They feel the best way to help them discover the real Jesus is to address their genuine objections to faith respectfully. On Sunday mornings they just preach the Bible as it is, but in a way that is easy for everyone to understand. Because of this, they have seen a lot of organic, new believer growth in their church and community. The church also places a huge emphasis on their student ministry. Between 6th - 12th grades, they have over 175 students a part of the ministry with an average Wednesday night attendance of around 140.

The church is seeking the right candidate to take over as the new Student Ministry Pastor to oversee their student ministry. The right candidate for this role will have a deep personal life in Christ and the character and capacity that align with the church’s overall mission and vision. Below are the qualifications and responsibilities Froot Group and the church have identified for this role:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Organize and lead weekly gatherings for middle school and high school students on Wednesdays from 7:00p - 8:30p.
  • Plan, promote, and execute events that foster discipleship, engaging students and encouraging them to serve in various ministries.
  • Mentor and develop student leaders, helping them discover their gifts and encouraging their involvement in serving during weekend services.
  • Recruit, train, and inspire a team of volunteers committed to supporting students and creating engaging ministry opportunities.
  • Build relationships with students through personal outreach, attending their extracurricular activities and supporting their events.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Spiritual qualifications to include:
    • A deep, personal relationship with Jesus Christ, reflected in a life of prayer and Biblical study.
    • A passion to see the lost come to know Jesus and for discipleship.
  • A strong commitment to the vision and mission of Journey Church, particularly to create a welcoming environment for skeptics, starters and re-starters in the faith.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to upholding the church's doctrinal statement and values in ministry practice.
  • A track record of leading volunteers and fostering teamwork within a ministry context.
  • Engaging interpersonal skills to relate to students, parents, and staff with grace and kindness.
  • Flexible, teachable, and able to foster collaboration within the ministry.
  • Education
    • A bachelor’s degree is required, and from a conservative evangelical university is preferred.
  • Experience
    • At least three to five years of experience in leading a relative student ministry is ideal, though not required.
