New Hope Community Church is a Bible directed, prayer driven and outreach focused church body, principally located near beautiful Traverse City, Michigan.

We are a local body of believers with a shared vision for loving God and loving others, and consistent with that commitment, sharing the good news of the Gospel both at home and abroad, as we are commanded in scripture.

One important way we achieve that vision is by encouraging and equipping our adult attendees to grow in spiritual maturity and become fully devoted followers of the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Adult Ministries Pastor will work as part of the New Hope pastoral team to direct and care for the adult ministries program—providing primary oversight for the Small Group, Men’s and Women’s ministries. This includes Discipleship groups, Care groups, Community groups, and Women’s and Men’s groups, and ministers to college-age adults through seniors.

The Adult Ministries Pastor will be responsible to…

  • Direct and oversee adult ministries program, inclusive of program vision and ministry objectives. Collaborate with other staff members to create a unified ministry vision.
  • Outline and deploy a roadmap for connection, discipleship, and spiritual growth, equipping adults for future ministry opportunities.
  • Identify, develop, and champion resources for discipleship groups with an emphasis on expository teaching, Bible Study and personal application—being not just hearers of the Word, but doers.
  • Build and support adult ministries program in cooperation with ministry team leaders to ensure that programming and vision are aligned to overall ministry objectives.
  • Recruit, shepherd and lead a healthy volunteer team, caring for their growth and spiritual development, while building and expanding the ministry volunteer leader base.
  • Ensure consistent strategy, execution, and sound theology. Review and approve relevant study materials. Develop and coach ministry teams. Audit and ensure quality and consistent delivery.
  • Integrate the New Hope core values into adult ministries:
    • Bible Directed – Ensuring our spiritual formation is based on the Bible
    • Prayer Driven – Giving God space to work before and into our plans
    • Outreach Focused – Creating opportunities for adults to reach the community around them, both near and far.
  • Oversee the discipleship and champion the care of individual adults, families, and small group communities. Lead and disciple a small group of men (5-7) to be equipped to lead their own small discipleship/accountability groups over time, starting two or three new groups every couple of years.
  • Excel at long-term planning, teaching, and discipleship.

The successful candidate will be qualified by…

  • A personal and deepening relationship with Jesus Christ, acknowledging Him as Lord and Savior.
  • Strong biblical knowledge and demonstrated spiritual maturity with a passion for seeing others grow in their relationship with Jesus and making disciples who make disciples.
  • Proven ability to teach and engage both individuals and large groups with strong communication skills—both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated leadership developing teams and enrolling others to achieve a vision.
  • A history of healthy conflict resolution and skill at building relationships / creating connections.
  • Confirmation of a call to serve in the Adult Ministry Pastor capacity at New Hope.
  • 10+ years of ministry leadership experience.
  • General computer competence and experience with the ability to operate sound and video systems; proficient in software such as Adobe, Microsoft Office Suite, ProPresenter, Mac & PC systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college and formal Bible training at Bachelor/Master level required. Pastoral or Biblical Theology degree preferred.
