General Summary:

Guided by NPC’s mission, vision, and values, the Director of Worship will work with the Senior Pastor to design and lead meaningful worship through music and prayer.

DIRECTOR OF WORSHIP and MUSIC MINISTRY

Essential Job Functions:

Designs and Leads Weekly Worship in Collaboration with Pastor

  • Serves as the main Worship Leader, reflecting a vibrant faith in Christ and passion for corporate worship. Shares worship leadership as appropriate.
  • In collaboration with Senior Pastor, prepares and leads weekly worship, special worship services and events (Advent/Lent/Holy Days/Memorial Services, etc.)
  • Selects songs and creates song-sets which make appropriate use of both new and treasured songs to form cohesive, worshipful, musical conversations with God.
  • Integrates corporate musical components so the whole worship service connects with the message, the Bible passages and the theme of each worship gathering.

Directs Worship Ministry Team, Worship Band and Tech Team

  • Convenes as needed and provides direction for Worship Planning Team
  • Meets weekly with worship band & tech team for rehearsals, in addition to Sunday morning rehearsal.
  • Identifies and encourages worship team’s use of their musical and leadership gifts in a way that enhances worship and helps the team members grow through their participation.
  • Identifies and recruits gifted musicians and vocalists to participate in the Worship Team, encouraging each one to share and grow in their worship ministry gifts.
  • Encourages the Worship Team in discipleship, prayer and participation in the life of Northminster.

Audio/Visual Oversight for Worship

  • Creates worship lyric slides and sermon note slides for weekly worship services using Pro-Presenter.
  • Familiarity with Breeze as a way to communicate with and organize volunteers..
  • Basic familiarity with live streaming.
  • Recruits and ensures proper training for volunteer Audio/Visual Team to provide quality sound, lighting and visual elements for worship, encouraging each one to share and grow in their worship ministry gifts.
  • Encourages the Audio/Visual Team in discipleship, prayer and participation in the life of Northminster.

General Responsibilities

  • Develops and manages the annual Worship & Music budget.
  • Actively participates in Northminster weekly staff meeting and weekly meeting with Pastor/Head of Staff.
  • Works collaboratively with Pastor, staff, leadership and lay volunteers as together we seek to fulfill Northminster’s purpose and vision, treating every Northminster Covenant Partner, guests and coworker with Christ like love and respect.
  • Performs other duties as related to Worship & Music ~ ie Holy Day worship services, memorial services, VBS and other musical opportunities as assigned by the Pastor.

Qualifications, Skills, Abilities:

  • A committed follower of Jesus Christ, demonstrating Christian maturity and a deep and prayerful dependence upon God.
  • Theologically consistent with the Covenant Order of Evangelical Presbyterians (ECO) and willing to become a Covenant Partner of Northminster.
  • One who senses a deep call to leading others in worship, music and prayer, rooted in the Word of God, displaying a love for Jesus Christ and making Him know to all who come as members and guests to Northminster.  
  • One who fosters discipleship, values collegiality and friendship among church staff and Covenant Partners of Northminster. 
  • Leadership skills with self-awareness and a willingness to be coached and to grow personally in faith and ministry life.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to foster teamwork in a positive atmosphere with Pastor, staff, church leadership, and NPC Covenant Partners and friends.
  • Possesses excellent organizational, administrative, interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Experience in leading worship and/or working with a worship team.
  • Successful experience recruiting, building and equipping teams for ministry.
  • Working knowledge of sound and audio equipment is preferred.
  • Ability to create attractive slides/graphics for worship is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree (or work toward a degree) in Music and Arts is preferred but not mandatory.
