Position Overview:

Minister of the Word and Sacrament

 

Required Job Functions:

An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following functions. These examples may not include all of the duties which the employee may be expected to perform. To Perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each function satisfactorily.

 

Primary Job Functions

  • The Pastor will be responsible for leading each worship service, except for absences due to vacation, illness, or time away as authorized by the Elders.
  • The Pastor will work closely with the Worship committee to promote celebrative worship services. The Pastor’s preaching should encourage the spiritual growth of the members as well as showing how our faith helps us in our daily living.

 

Education

  • Be available to the Worship and Education committee for consultation and advice as needed.
  • Provide training for Elders and Deacons as needed.
  • Conduct informational classes for new members as needed.
  • Be available to teach adult classes as needed.

 

Pastoral Care:

  • The Pastor will call on the sick, shut-in or others needing a pastoral call upon request and in conversation with the Elders and Deacons and other church members.
  • The Pastor shall be available for spiritual counseling as needed.
  • The Pastor shall be available in case of emergency or crisis situation for church members.
  • The Pastor shall conduct all funerals and wedding for the members of the congregation as requested, subject to the Church wedding policy.

 

Secondary Job Functions:

  • To serve as the President of the Board of Elders and Consistory
  • To serve on the Executive, Worship, and Education committees and any other committees deemed necessary.
  • All ministry staff/ volunteers shall be given direction by the Pastor.
  • The Pastor, along with the consistory shall be responsible to give leadership for the direction of the congregation.

 

Requirements

  • He shall be a mature Christian who gives evidence of genuine commitment to Christ and His church.
  • He Shall be an ordained minister in the Alliance of Reformed Churches or a church from a denomination with ecclesiastical fellowship.
  • He must be in complete agreement with the Grant Reformed Church Statement of Belief.
  • He shall possess gifts, sills and pastoral experience that enables him to serve effectively in a ministry of worship, administration, teaching, and pastoral care.
  • He shall pursue a Godly Christian life and continually cultivate his personal relationship with Jesus Christ under the guidance of the Elders.
  • He shall maintain a Biblical-reformed worldview and subscription to the Reformed Confessions expressed in the Three Forms of Unity.
  • He will be encouraged to pursue continuing education for development of his skills and for the effectiveness of his ministry.
  • He must maintain Grant Reformed Church’s membership positions on the following:
    • Must maintain a complementarian perspective on Scripture concerning the ordination of office bearers.
    • Must maintain a traditional, biblical position on human sexuality.
    • Must maintain a Reformed, covenantal view on paedo baptism.
  • Preferred:Seminary grad (MDIV)

We are seeking someone who is motivated to reach unchurched or spiritually curious people in our community. He must have a Sheperd’s heart and a love for people of all ages. He must be able to equip, develop and motivate people through God’s word.

Located around 35 minutes northwest of Grand Rapids Michigan, our church and parsonage are nestled in Newaygo county amongst Grant public schools.
