SUMMARY

The Worship Arts Director will provide musical worship leadership to the worship team members and congregants of Kings Avenue Baptist Church by creating an inviting, worshipful atmosphere in which people can meet with God, and leading them in growing their own relationships with the Lord through worship.

The primary responsibility of the Worship Arts Director will be to plan, coordinate, and lead weekly contemporary worship service for the members of the church. This role will include coordinating music with members of the Praise Band, supervising audio visual support staff, interacting with the Youth Director, Children’s Director, and other activity leaders as required, and coordinating service themes or topics with the Senior Pastor. As the leader of the contemporary worship, the Worship Arts Director prays, sings and interacts with Praise Band, Senior Pastor, and church members to ensure the service flows as smoothly as possible from beginning to end. It is a balanced combination of spiritual, musical, and presentation objectives.

Regular Duties

· Select music for Sunday worship.

· Find sheet music, lyrics and copyright info for all music and print for rehearsal/worship service for all musicians/singers.

· Send set list, links, lyrics and sheet music to pastor, church secretary, musicians and audio visual team early in the week to allow for the most individual preparation time possible prior to weekly rehearsal.

· Lead weekly rehearsal with musicians.

· Lead worship at 8:15 and 10:45 services.

· Maintain church-owned musical instruments and equipment, replacing or upgrading when necessary.

· Maintain an organized library of all church-owned worship resources both physical and digital, to include any printed music, books, recorded music, CDs DVDs, and purchased files for download.

· Cooperate with the church Administrator on matters concerning the worship ministry’s use of any church facility or property.

· Ensure church compliance with applicable copyright law with regard to worship resources, including reporting usage when required.

· Attend staff and business meetings as required.

· Stay abreast of current US trends in worship music.

Occasional Duties

· Support other ministry activities as needed.

· Be available for special services such as funerals and Christmas Eve.

Supervisory Chain

While the Worship Arts Director shall work with and coordinate activities with the Senior Pastor, Youth Director, Children’s Director, and the Elder Body, he/she shall be responsible to the Senior Pastor who alone has the responsibility to instruct the Worship Arts Director in the performance of his/her duty. The Worship Arts Director, insofar as possible, must be protected from unreasonable demands of church members in order to permit the accomplishment of his/her duties in an efficient and timely manner.

General Provisions

· The Worship Arts Director will be supportive of the Senior Pastor’s goals.

· The Worship Arts Director will have access to all other church staff members.

· The Worship Arts Director will have authority to expend budgeted worship ministry funds as he/she deems appropriate. Expenses outside of the worship ministry budget must be approved by the Senior Pastor and the Finance Committee.

· The contemporary nature of the Sunday service dictates that a rigid dress code may not be enforced. It is expected, however, that the Worship Arts Director dress reasonably and in attire appropriate for the occasion or activity in which engaged as well as give leadership/oversight to other worship team members in acceptable dress code.

· The Worship Arts Director will be expected to engage in conduct, both on and off the job, in such a manner that will not reflect adversely upon the church. Serious misconduct of a nature what would tend to discredit the church could result in termination or other appropriate disciplinary actions.

· To ensure that the worship experience remains undistracted and of the highest quality, and in order to attract an increasing pool of gifted musicians who desire to be involved in worship at Kings Avenue Baptist Church, the Worship Arts Director will be afforded the latitude and responsibility of conducting evaluations of the skill level of all members of the worship ministry, both current and prospective. If a member exhibits a performance that is deemed would detract from the quality of worship, the Worship Arts Director may, after consulting with the Senior Pastor, ask the individual to step down from the ministry either temporarily or permanently.

· The Worship Arts Director will be expected to participate in the shared life, personal growth, and accountability of a small group.

Hours of Work

This is a part-time salaried position. The working hours of the Worship Arts Director shall be coordinated in detail with the Senior Pastor, but generally should amount to about thirty (30) hours per week. Hours to be worked include 8:15am and 10:45am worship services every Sunday and weekly practice with the worship team (to be coordinated with team members.) The number of hours may vary or be adjusted to meet particular needs and/or programs.

Pay: From $18,000.00 per year
