Associate Pastor/Director Job Description
The Associate Pastor/Director is responsible for championing Real Life Ministries’ Vision, Mission, Methodology, and Strategy in two ways:
- As an Individual Leader: The Associate Pastor is responsible for taking the leadership of all ministry functions listed below. Live out Real Life Ministries’ Organizational Core Values and 7 Ministry Essentials personally
and ensure their leadership and oversight of the ministries they oversee also embody and are living out Real Life Ministries’ Organizational Core Values and 7 Ministry Essentials.
- As a member of the Staff Team, the Associate Pastor is responsible for collaborating as a team member on their immediate teams as well as the Real Life Staff Team as a whole to accomplish church-wide objectives and goals. They will lead
their teams in alignment with essential team objectives and goals, and are responsible for removing obstacles hindering collaboration and cooperation across different ministries.
Job Summary
As the Associate Pastor, this individual will lead a team of leaders, teams, and volunteers to oversee and implement the discipleship strategy of ministry teams. Their goal will be to facilitate the church's direction and growth while supporting
the Lead Pastor in preaching, pastoral counseling, and officiating weddings and funerals. This position will operate under the guidance of the Lead Pastor and collaborate with the entire staff to shepherd and mentor volunteers, ensuring alignment with the
church's initiatives and goals. The Associate Pastor will oversee the Small Group Ministry, Guest Integration, Youth Ministry, Community Impact, and Facilities Management.
The above Job Summary will be accomplished predominantly through a team of volunteers to provide ministry service and event support for Real Life Ministries.
- Ministry Function (70 %)
- Oversight and Execution of Small Group Ministry
- Creating Pathways for Engagement: Develop practical systems and onramps that help individuals progress from visiting to feeling a sense of belonging, connecting with others, growing in their faith, and ultimately multiplying as they engage in relational
discipleship.
- Connecting People to Small Groups: Implement a systematic and effective approach to connect individuals with small groups through various means such as sign-up areas, storytelling, all-church promotions, and dedicated web pages.
- Tracking Participation: Oversee the collection and management of information related to small group participants and leaders.
- Leadership Development: Establish a strategy for identifying, recruiting, training, developing, and coaching small group leaders and group coaches.
- Curriculum Development: Collaborate with the staff team to formulate a content and curriculum strategy for small groups, focusing on sermon-based lessons and other relevant resources.
- Facilitating Collaboration: Engage in strategic conversations with other ministry leaders to identify and incorporate growth opportunities within serving teams where appropriate.
- Oversight and Execution of Guest Integration (In Person & Online):
- Develop practical onramps and systems to help individuals move from being visitors to feeling a sense of belonging and personal growth, both in person and online.
- Establish a systematic, intentional, and effective approach to follow up with all guests at RLM. This system should guide people as they transition from guests and attendees to committed members.
- Create environments and strategies tailored for three distinct groups of people:
- New Guests (In Person & Online)
- New Believers (In Person & Online)
- New Partners (In Person & Online)
- Implement a systematic and effective method to connect individuals to small groups through sign-up areas, vision casting, storytelling, all-church promotions, our webpage, and more.
- Facilitate a clear strategy and system to re-engage attendees and partners who may feel disconnected.
- Oversight and Execution of Student Ministries:
- Responsible for promoting the spiritual growth and development of high school and middle school students (grades 6 through 12). This role includes leadership of weekly programs and occasional special events such as camps, conferences, trips, and service
projects. Responsibilities include:
- Leading a team of leaders and volunteers in the creation and operation of student ministry programs, including weekly services and regular special events.
- Creating and managing a student ministry calendar that schedules all activities and teachings for the ministry.
- Recruiting, training, and developing volunteers as needed to support weekly programs and special events.
- Developing and mentoring a group of student leaders.
- Designing, planning, and conducting regular parent meetings to address the needs and expectations of families attending the church.
- Oversight and Execution of Community Impact/Benevolence Ministries:
Responsible for managing and leading the benevolence fund and Community Impact Team so that we would love our church and community well through:
- Equipping and empowering the Blessing Team leader(s)/volunteers to execute benevolence requests.
- Create a Community Impact Team and annual strategy of community projects that makes our community better and allow us to be the church in our community
- Oversight of Facilities: Responsible for managing volunteers and hired contractors to maintain and care for the facility inside and outside. This entails the following:
- Enlisting volunteers to perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks to maintain and repair the building cosmetically and functionally, and preventative maintenance
- Coordinating with outside contractors to address larger issues, ensuring the overall functionality and safety of the building.
- Overseeing the custodial team who cleans the building weekly
- Coordinating with the landscaping and fertilizer companies for maintenance of lawn and landscaping beds
- Team Leadership:
- Provide pastoral leadership, development and training for volunteers.
- Sustain a working model of discipleship in all ministries in collaboration with the
staff and elders.
- Team Function ( 10 %)
- Attend weekly Staff meetings helping to determine effective service flow and giving input on other ministry related items.
- Provides technical training to Staff and ministry volunteers for church wide ministry support.
- Be coachable and open to growth from the Lead Pastor in living out the 7 Essentials.
- Real Life Staff Relations ( 10 %)
- Ensure Ministries stay aligned to the Real Life philosophy of ministry.
- Play a part in All Staff events as directed by the Lead Pastor
- Personal Ministry (5%)
- Responsible for having, and living out, a Personal Ministry Plan
- Responsible for having intentional discipleship conversations regarding the personal ministries of others on the team, including volunteers.
- Miscellaneous ( 5 %)
- Work with Congregation in a way that glorifies God
- In weekend services – oversee volunteer participation (friendliness, recruiting, attendance)
- Be visible and a model for your volunteers to follow (friendliness, cooperation, availability)
- Represents Christ and the Church in the community in a Godly way
- Values and abide to the expectations of being a member of the church found in our 101, and 201 class.
- Participation in All-Church functions as well as global trainings that fall outside of the specific Job Description (Align, DiscipleShift, Teaching in Partnership Classes, etc.)
Qualifications, Required Skills and Competencies
- Spiritual Leadership: Ability to provide spiritual guidance, counsel individuals, and pastoral care.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking and preaching ability.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong ability to build relationships, connect with people from diverse backgrounds, and demonstrate empathy.
- Leadership Skills: Ability to lead teams of volunteers, oversee ministry programs, and delegate tasks effectively.
- Biblical Knowledge: understanding of the Bible and the ability to interpret scripture accurately.
- Organizational Skills: Efficient time management, ability to prioritize tasks, and manage administrative responsibilities.
- Strong Computer Skills: working with various programs. (i.e.: Word, Excel, Google Suite, Planning Center Online, ProPresenter, a DAW such as Logic)
Spiritual Aspects of Job Requirements - As the function of this role is ministerial and goes to the heart of the mission of Real Life Ministries, the following areas are required to effectively convey Real's Life message and carry out the mission
of our church:
- Ordained pastor or in the process of Ordination from Real Life Ministries
- Performing the Sacerdotal duties: Preaching, Baptism, Weddings, Funerals, Communion, Teaching of Theology, Biblical and Spiritual Coaching…
- Performing Real Life Ministries’ Pastoral duties: Hospital visits, shepherding those in their ministry
- A heart for God that is evidenced by proven character and a spiritual-mindedness that understands that “apart from Christ we can do nothing.” – Abiding in Christ.
- A shepherd’s temperament; servant-leader/mentor attitude and inclination.
- Strong interpersonal skills—ability to communicate persuasively and compassionately, both orally and in writing.
- Strong biblical foundation for wise management in a church setting.
- Able to establish and maintain appropriate standards for the accomplishment of ministry in a way that honors both God and people.
- Since we work primarily in teams at Real Life, must understand group dynamics and ensure effective consensus building and decision-making.
- Personal initiative and diligence, which produces follow-through in tasks.
- Solid biblical/theological convictions, which are aligned with Real Life Ministries’ Doctrine and Statement of Faith.
- A willingness to grow and adapt to the inevitable changes found in a local church.
