Title: Early Childhood Director
Classification: Full-Time | Exempt
Supervisor: Ty Berbereia, Kids Pastor
Relates closely to: Kids Pastor, Kids Administrative Assistant, and Family Life Department
Overall Purpose: To reflect the mission and vision of Cedar Valley Church through Early Childhood Ministry. Providing a safe, fun, and engaging environment for kids to grow in their understanding of God, Scripture, and what it means to follow Him. To build, equip, inspire, and develop a volunteer team to effectively do the work of ministry to kids ages birth–preschool through services and group ministry.
Role
- Early Childhood Service
Purpose: To create a fun and engaging experience for kids to learn Bible stories, memorize Scripture, and learn who God is.
Responsibilities:
- Have a planned order of service for each room.
- Create moments of worship, giving, prayer, and Scripture memorization every week.
- Prepare all supplies needed for each service.
- Develop, train, and equip a team to teach kids the Bible in fun and engaging ways every Sunday.
- Communicate the service plan with teachers and volunteers ahead of time.
- Consistently evaluate Early Childhood Services with teachers, coordinators, and coaches and implement changes to ensure effective ministry is happening.
- Early Childhood Life Groups
Purpose: Champion the value of small group discipleship by providing environments for spiritual growth, personal accountability, and biblical application among the young kids of Cedar Valley.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare a group plan for each Wednesday during the school year.
- Create moments of worship, giving, prayer, and Scripture memorization every week.
- Prepare all supplies needed for each group meeting.
- Communicate the group plan with Group Leaders ahead of time.
- Consistently evaluate Early Childhood Life Groups with Group Leaders, coordinators, and coaches to ensure effective ministry is happening.
- Work with the Kids Pastor to plan and execute two “Make a Difference” days throughout the school year to give kids an opportunity to serve their local community.
- Team Builder
Purpose: To grow the Early Childhood volunteer team and develop teams of leaders to delegate responsibility.
Responsibilities:
- Continually cast vision to the volunteer team to help them understand where we are going and how their investment of time is making a difference in God’s Kingdom.
- Consistently recruit new volunteers and walk them through the onboarding process.
- Teach and challenge current volunteers to recruit new volunteers.
- Develop volunteers into leaders capable of serving in higher capacities as coordinators, leaders, coaches, and ministry leads.
- Continue to build the leadership pipeline in Early Childhood ministry.
- Meet with coordinators and coaches consistently to invest in their leadership, receive feedback to make the ministry better, and give them information to pass on to the teams they lead.
- Keep the CV Kids handbook up to date with relevant information.
- Continually train volunteers through video, huddles, and meetings.
- Communicator
Purpose: To ensure a positive experience for volunteers through proactive communication.
Responsibilities:
- Schedule volunteers and send the schedule 1–3 months in advance.
- Work with volunteers to find replacements if they are unable to serve.
- Send consistent communication to all volunteers about upcoming events, curriculum updates, and any other information they need to know.
- Create space for volunteers to provide feedback on ministry.
- Send lesson plans to volunteer teams ahead of time to give them time to prepare.
- Build relationships with volunteers.
- Parent Partner
Purpose: To resource parents to be the primary discipler of their children.
Responsibilities:
- Send a monthly parent email to keep parents informed on Early Childhood ministry.
- Provide resources for parents so they can disciple their kids at home during the week (i.e.. family devotions, take-home sheets, etc.)
- Build relationships with parents to deepen their trust in and understanding of Early Childhood ministry and Cedar Valley Church.
- Meet with a Parent Focus Group once a quarter with a focus group representing each age group in Early Childhood.
- Room Overseer
Purpose: To ensure Early Childhood rooms are clean, safe, and ready for ministry.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure each room is a fun environment that kids want to be in.
- Ensure Early Childhood rooms are organized, clean, and ready to welcome kids.
- Continually work to make Early Childhood rooms better.
- Create a detailed room cleaning guide to be followed after every room use.
- Create a detailed room and toy cleaning guide to be followed monthly or bi-monthly.
- Do weekly checks to ensure every room is stocked with supplies (diapers, snacks, cleaning supplies, etc.) and order any supplies that need restocking.
- Ensure toys are clean and in good working condition.
- Ensure the furniture is clean and in good working condition.
- Communicate maintenance requests with the Facilities team.
- Staff Member
Purpose: To live out staff culture and to keep the full team in mind.
Responsibilities:
- Live out our staff culture in your daily work life.
- Attend relevant meetings.
- Follow processes in place when working with other departments.
- Proactively communicate with other departments as needed.
- Keep a clean and organized workspace.
- Set and steward the Early Childhood budget each year.
- Event Planner
Purpose: To create space for fun Sundays so kids can invite friends and family.
Responsibilities:
- Work with the Kids Team to create the annual calendar.
- Plan and execute Bring a Friend Sundays throughout the year.
- Plan and execute the August Preschool Party for kids advancing to kindergarten.
- Event Childcare Requests
Purpose: To assist other ministries by being the point person for childcare requests.
Responsibilities:
- Follow the childcare request process with requesting departments.
- Be proactive in communicating and asking for information from requesting departments.
- Get a childcare team together by working with current volunteers, local churches, and outside agencies.
- Give updates to requesting departments as needed.
- Events include CV Recap, Christmas Eve, Good Friday, District Council, and other events as they come up.
Qualifications
- Authentic relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
- One who exhibits a personal and growing relationship with God, a teachable spirit, and a healthy family life.
- Experience in Early Childhood Ministry or Education
- A vision and passion for Early Childhood Ministry, and an ability to communicate that vision to others.
- Can lead others, identify and develop leaders, and delegate responsibility to high-level volunteers.
- Is gifted in communication with others.
- Works in coordination and harmony with other church ministries and staff.
- Committed to the church's vision, leadership, and people.
- Dependable, responsible, self-motivated.
- Ability to lift an infant or toddler.
Education, Training and Experience Requirements
- High School Diploma
- Bachelor of Arts or Science preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft 365
- Preferred working knowledge of budgeting process
- Experience with church management software and/or other scheduling software preferred
- Project management experience

Work hours:
- Full-time: 40 hours per week | 5 hours on Sundays; 3 hours on Wednesdays; 32 hours in the office during the week.
- Sundays: 7:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.
- Wednesday: 5:30–8:30 p.m.
- Office Hours: Monday–Thursday | 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m.
- Due to the work’s nature and the need to coordinate working hours with weekend and weekday services and activities, changes in work schedules, work locations, and travel may be necessary.
- This position may require additional hours for other work events.
Salary Range:
- Salary is based on qualifications and experience. Approx. Range: $40,000–$44,000/yr
