About the Children's Minister:

The Children's Minister will lead, plan, execute, and oversee the ministry to children from Birth through 6th grade. This person will lead the leaders and children in weekly teaching and discipleship. This person will partner with parents to help lay a spiritual foundation for all children. This person will also lead a team of paid staff and volunteers to execute each part of the Children’s Ministry. This person will oversee Sunday morning children's Life groups, children’s church, Wednesday Family Nights for Kids, and all children’s activities.  

This person should be a committed Follower of Christ. This person must exemplify Christ-like character with the ability to teach, model, and oversee ministry to parents, leaders, and children. This person must adhere to a high standard of moral conduct as outlined in the personnel handbook of West Conroe Baptist Church. This person must support and model the Mission and Values of West Conroe Baptist Church.

The Children's Minister's Responsibilities Include: 

  • As a member of the Ministerial Staff, this person will be asked to attend weekly meetings to help with the execution of strategy and communication with the staff. You will be asked to give ideas and feedback regarding church initiatives and communicate all things with your team area(s).

  • Oversee the weekly Life Groups and worship activities for children and preschoolers.

  • Provide strategic methods for the development of ministry teams and group volunteers. 

  • In conjunction with the Academy Director, oversee the Academy and its educational program ensuring the alignment of West Conroe’s Mission and Values. 

  • In conjunction with the Preschool Director, oversee the Preschool area and all of its educational program ensuring alignment with West Conroe’s Mission and Values. 

  • Recruit workers and teachers to serve in all areas of Children and Preschool Ministries. 

  • Coordinate regular planning, training, and equipping opportunities for volunteers.

  • Prepare and maintain an annual budget for Children, Preschool, and Academy areas. 

  • Plan and implement a summer activity schedule including Vacation Bible School and Preteen Camp.

  • In conjunction with the Discovery Director, support the Ministry to children and adults with Special Needs by serving as staff liaison by recruiting volunteers and bringing ministry needs to the staff. 

  • Meet regularly with leadership of the Children’s Ministry for the purpose of casting vision, support, and leadership development within the children’s area.

  • Maintain the safety and security of all ministry areas involving children.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Pastor and/or Senior Pastor.

What You Bring: 

The following describes many of the characteristics of the ideal candidate for the Children's Minister:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree, required

  • Seminary degree (MDiv or Christian Education), a plus

    • Extensive experience in this area can substitute

  • 3 years of applicable experience 

  • Experience in recruiting and equipping teams and volunteers for the ministry

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • An understanding of social media, technology, and media, required

  • Excellent verbal, written, and communication skills

  • Track record of administrative and organizational efficiency 

  • Ability to organize and coordinate work, set priorities, delegate, build consensus, and meet deadlines 

  • Ability to provide for the equipping of leaders through various means

  • Ability to maintain order and resolve behavioral issues in a Christ-like manner

  • Student of children’s culture and current with all children’s trends and resources  

  • Gifted teacher and communicator of God’s Word to children, parents, and leaders

Conroe, located north of downtown Houston, has experienced incredible growth and transformation over the last century, which originally gained in wealth due to lumber and oil industries.

Today, Conroe occupies some of the finest residential developments in the nation that have sprung up around the picturesque shores and wooded terrain surrounding Lake Conroe.
