Job Description
The High Sierra Fellowship (HSF) Worship Director has the general responsibility of leading and guiding numerous facets of musical worship of our Lord through His body, the church. The successful candidate strives to praise Jesus with skill and joy (Psalm 33:3) in a God-honoring manner. The candidate is also called to lead by example in his or her personal life and spiritual walk with God as found in His Holy Scripture. The HSF Worship Director reports to the Sr. Pastor and HSF Overseeing Elder (OE) board with input from the Care Elder (CE) board.

Primary Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, lead and participate in all aspects of worship activities at HSF. These will include weekly worship rehearsals, Sunday services (primarily contemporary and some traditional music) with multiple worship teams; midweek main service worship, youth and children’s music programs, Vacation Bible School and other outreach programs
- Recruit, train, and direct seasonal choirs
- Develop special musical programs as needed.
- Coordinate music for both inter- and intra-church special events (i.e. retreats, worship events)
- Provide vocal and/or instrumental instruction and coaching as required
- Process all applications for music-related volunteers by audition in a timely fashion
- Coordinate with tech teams to ensure smooth operation of services; includes familiarity with sound boards, sound system, lighting, and video system
- Arrange for acquisition and maintenance of HSF musical instruments and equipment
- Study, plan and teach from God’s Word on occasion if required
- Attend regular staff/ministry/congregational meetings as required
Education and Experience
- Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in a music-related field preferred
- Proven proficiency in playing musical instruments and singing
- Minimum of two years of experience serving as worship lead, choir master, or music director
- Experience working in a church office environment, weekly gatherings, and worship meetings
- Valid driver’s license
Position Qualifications
- Demonstrates interpersonal and relational leadership skills with congregation, staff, and elders
- Possesses musical skills, both vocal and instrumental, that encourage worship within the church
- Displays strong organizational, verbal and written communication skills, public speaking skills, including social media proficiency along with HSF office software
- Demonstrates an ability to utilize various computer software and tools, such as scheduling tools and notation software.
- Pays close attention to detail and can function in an organized manner with minimal supervision
- Ability to coordinate the work of musicians and/or large groups of volunteers for regular events
- Ability to oversee a musical budget as determined by the OE board
- Must pass criminal background check and have credit history check
Personal Qualifications
- Must demonstrate a born again, active and real Christian walk, meeting the requirements of scripture (1 Timothy 3:1-13 / Titus 1:5-9) serving Jesus Christ, and living life in the Spirit
- Must demonstrate a call to minister to God’s people and disciple others in the faith of Christ
- Must exhibit an energetic, mature lead with a humble heart of compassion and integrity
- Must read and be in complete agreement with the current HSF Statement of Faith, By-Laws, and Policies and Procedures; actively works to support HSF’s mission and vision
- Must have the education, gifting(s), skills and abilities to lead gatherings and congregation(s) in glorifying God through music in a collaborative style
Salary and Benefits
- Salary range: $66,650 to $76,450 depending on education and experience (requires OE approval)
- Medical, retirement and life insurance benefits provided.
- Paid annual leave per HSF Policy and Procedures with OE approved scheduling
