                   ABOUT GRACE CALVARY CHURCH

Grace Calvary Church is located in Ship Bottom, New Jersey, on a barrier island called Long Beach Island. It is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean and Barnegat Bay. Our church is historic. We recently celebrated our 100th year of service to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Our area is unique in that it is a vacation location in the summertime but has a significant year-round population on the island and the nearby mainland. Consequently, we have a base year-round congregation, augmented in the summertime by people who own summer homes on the island and short-term vacationers. Many of the summer people consider GCC their second home church.

The winter congregation is on the order of 80+ people who regularly attend. The summer attendance increases to about 120+ people. Most of our year-round congregation lives on the mainland.

Because of our location, the attire of the congregation and staff can be characterized as very beach casual, with lots of tropical shirts and very few ties and jackets. Also, because we are located on the beach block, we have baptisms in the ocean.

Our congregation is comprised of many longtime friends, and we are a very loving and caring church. The vast majority are mature, Bible believing Christians who love sharing their faith in Jesus Christ.

The church staff is comprised of a Senior Pastor (maybe you), an Executive Pastor (administration, finance), a secretary, and a custodian. We are an elder-led church, currently with four elders and four deacons. Our guiding document, after the Bible, is our constitution.

Additionally, we have various in-church ministries such as the following: Midweek Bible study, Women’s Bible study, Women’s prayer group, young adults Bible study, and Men’s Bible study. Grace Calvary Church is also a strong supporter of missions.

One of our challenges with the future in mind is the need to increase our congregation with younger people with children. This is a significant criterion for our new pastor. He should possess the experience and ability to develop initiatives and programs that will increase the congregation with younger people.

In addition, housing in our area (even off the island) is expensive. Unfortunately, Grace Calvary Church does not have a parsonage, so this may be a consideration for candidates.
