Immanuel Church is seeking a Pastoral Care Minister with the appropriate skills to care for the congregation while building and empowering congregational care teams.
Immanuel Church is a multisite church in Northern Kentucky. This position requires specialized pastoral care skills and expertise to help Immanuel accomplish its mission. The Pastoral Care Minister reports directly to the Senior Pastor.
The primary duty of the Pastoral Care Minister is to lead the congregational care ministry, provide care for the sick, dying, deceased, or those requiring assistance. The successful candidate will possess a profound awareness of empathy, compassion, relational dynamics, and the capacity for spiritual counseling. In this role, the successful minister will understand the subtleties of pastoral care in a church context, have a servant's heart, be committed to excellence in their work environment, while recruiting, leading and managing teams.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Church Family Care
- Go on visits, and/or empower teams to do the same for Immanuel Church family members who are hospitalized, in hospice care, scheduled for surgery, or experiencing difficulties necessitating pastoral care. The Pastoral Care Minister may receive reports of such family members from other staff directly from the Immanuel Church family.
- Provide, and/or engage teams to, visit our church members who are homebound and residing in retirement facilities.
- Assist the Pastor in developing an appropriate, effective pastoral care ministry for the Immanuel Church congregation(s).
- This would involve the Minister of Pastoral Care developing a philosophy and equipping structure, as well as coordinating a pastoral care ministry and coordinating the provision of relevant pastoral care.
- Assist the staff and laity in the development and implementation of small groups of care (such as grief support, etc.).
- Communicate weekly to Senior Pastor or as may otherwise be needed regarding visits and updates.
- Advise ministry staff regarding situations in which the Pastoral Care Minister feels it is advisable for leaders of their respective ministries to make a visit.
- Communicate with the card ministry concerning any cards needing to be mailed.
- Provide care and support to church family during the time of a death.
- If unavailable, coordinate support through other ministerial staff.
- Visit as needed during the progression of a circumstance to provide support and relief for the family.
- Respect the wishes of the family if no visits are requested.
- Communicate to Senior Pastor and Communications Director when a death has occurred.
- Preach funerals and graveside services for Senior Pastor as may be needed from time to time as directed by the Senior Pastor.
- Interactions:
- Maintain good relationships with guests, church members, and vendors.
- Interact positively with members of the congregation, parents of our fee-based programs, and others as may be required from day-to-day
- Other Duties:
- All other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor.
SPIRITUAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be mature and growing Christian, deepening his/her personal relationship with Jesus Christ, as Savior and Lord, and modeling this faith relationship to others (1 Timothy 3:1-13). This must include a visible commitment to prayer, submission to the authority of Scripture, and dedication to living out the truth of God’s Word (2 Tim 3:16).
- Must reflect a calling from God to serve in the ministry of the local church.
- Desirable spiritual gifts: administration, service, helps, encouragement, faith, and leadership.
- Must be willing to support realization of the Immanuel Church vision, mission, core values, and biblical priorities.
COMPETENCIES AND TRAITS:
- Knowledgeable in the different areas of counseling.
- Experienced understanding and operation of software including Windows, Excel, Word, Outlook, Publisher, Adobe Acrobat, and others as needed.
- Ability to learn technologies, including Breeze (Church Database) or other database management software and programs necessary.
- Must be a teachable, team player able to work positively and constructively with staff, lay leaders, and volunteers.
- Must respect the spiritual or administrative authority of the Senior Pastor and lay leaders of the church.
- Must handle conflict resolution with excellence (Matthew 18:15-17).
- Must possess, and continually develop, strong interpersonal skills, oral and written communications.
- Must be a person who is a self-starter and strategic thinker, able to multi-task and work independently or with others.
- Must be able to delegate and equip people to do projects related to operations.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- A degree in counseling, M.Div. or equivalent degree, or three (3) years of experience in a similar role is preferred for this role.
- Relevant experience in a church, hospital, or ministry setting.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Stand or sit for prolonged periods of time.
- Walk, bend, twist and kneel.
- Climb up and down stairs.
- Finger and hand dexterity sufficient to operate computer and office equipment.
- Specific vision ability required by this job to include close, distance, color and peripheral vision; depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
- Occasionally lift and carry up to 10 pounds with or without assistance.
- Ability to be available to the congregation as needs arise, including during evenings and night.
- Transportation and ready mobility to and from all work locations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Will be expected to come to the Lakeside Park Campus as requested and must have the ability to work from home with appropriate WIFI and other communication means. A majority of the time is likely to be spent at hospitals, funeral homes, congregation homes or other locations as requested.
- This position is anticipated to be 20 hours per week with hours negotiable, but generally attained during weekdays with Sunday responsibilities.
