The role of the Care Pastor is to oversee all elements Of Care for Heights Church under the direction and leadership of the Next Steps Pastor. This will require a firm grasp of the Mission, Vision, Values and Beliefs, of Heights Church and the ability to align staff, leadership teams, and serve team with its Mission, Vision, Values and Culture. The Care Pastor will lead all components of our Care Ministry, ranging from weddings, memorials, Grief Share, Counseling, Prayer and Baptisms.

 

The Care Pastor will be responsible for:

1.  Modeling Biblical Priorities

Responsible for upholding Biblical priorities and core values of Heights Church. The Care Pastor should represent a growing personal relationship with Christ. The Care Pastor models a strong relationship with his or her spouse (if married) and children (if applicable). The Care Pastor strives to fulfill his or her purpose in life and ministry while demonstrating integrity in words, relationships and actions.

These objectives are accomplished by:

  • Committing to a daily quiet-time with God
  • Participating in a Heights Church Life Group on a regular basis
  • Setting appropriate boundaries to protect character and integrity
  • Adhering to and encompassing the qualities and characteristics required of Heights Church employees, as defined by the Heights Church Culture Guide

2.  Ministry Planning

Responsible for all details related to the planning and execution of dynamic programs including, but not limited to, Weddings, Memorials, Prayer, Baptism, Marriage, Adult classes and other ministry programs. This is accomplished by:

  • Leading regular evaluations and review sessions to maintain a level of excellence and monitoring the impact of ministry
  • Provide Leadership in vision casting and goal setting for each area of the Care Ministry
  • Build systems and structures to lead people from being attenders to serve members

3.  Prayer Ministry

Responsible for recruiting, training, shepherding, and leading the prayer ministry of Heights Church. This is accomplished by:

  • Work in coordination with the weekend and Guest Services team to provide prayer during weekend services
  • Oversee the training and development of the prayer serve team
  • Maintain and manage systems/processes to distribute prayer requests to staff and appropriate serve team members
  • Recruit and Empower serve team to serve for weekend services and church wide events
  • Regularly connect with and shepherd prayer serve team members
  • First point of contact for any incoming prayer requests
  • Triage the prayer requests and provide necessary information to the individual requesting prayer and/or the pastor of the appropriate ministry, if outside of the Care Ministry itself
  • Order as needed and maintain equipment for the prayer ministry

4.  Baptisms

Responsible for working with the Lead Pastor and/or Lead communicators to plan Celebration Weekend/Baptisms. This is accomplished by:

  • Schedule baptism weekends a year in advance. Add into PCO.
  • Run the Baptism Workshop
    • Organize Baptism class for both locations
    • Pre-Print Baptism Certificate
    • Prepare baptism bags to include a Bible, devotional and a letter from the Lead Pastor
  • Available for all Celebration Weekends including baptisms
  • Attend all baptism weekends
    • Coordinate a schedule for all individuals being baptized
    • Work in coordination with the Facilities team to ensure proper set up
    • Work with the Communications team to provide photos for individuals being baptized
  • Organize “Off Location” private baptisms
  • Order and Maintain equipment for baptisms

5.  Marriage/Weddings

Responsible for developing the systems and processes related to the pre-martial and wedding services. This is accomplished by:

  • First point of contact for pre-marital and wedding request calls/emails
  • Arrange an appointment with either a pastor or marriage mentors for pre-marital counseling
  • Facilitate pre-marital counseling for couples, when needed
  • Facilitate Prepare and Enrich assessments
  • Plan and execute events for Pastor and Mentor training (Prepare & Enrich)
  • Officiate weddings, as needed
  • Schedule, prepare and execute Sacred Marriage Class
  • Schedule wedding within PCO

6.  Memorials

Responsible for overseeing the needs, care and memorial service of individuals and families walking through the death of a loved one.

  • First point of contact for an individual walking through the death of a loved one
    • Initiate a Pastoral call, assign to other pastoral staff member, as needed, based on ministry appropriateness
    • Follow-up with the family and arrange a date to plan the memorial service
  • Walk through and plan the memorial service with the individual or family
  • Help in memorial service planning if assigned to another pastor of officiate
    • Be a resource to the other Pastor, if needed.
  • Memorial Service planning
    • Arrange for Military honors, if necessary
    • Work with the State and Local officials for planning Military, Police and Firefighter honor guard memorials, when necessary
    • Determine Order of Service for the service
    • Prepare memorial bags that include Grief Share, Pastoral Care, and Professional Counseling information and any books related to walking through grief
    • Arrive early for the day of the memorial service to set up and receive flowers
  • Officiate memorial service, as needed
  • Order and Maintain Memorial Service Equipment
  • Schedule a 6- month follow up call.

7.  Adult Classes

Responsible for maintaining and overseeing the Adult Care classes. Ensures that all guidelines for expenses and purchases are followed by serve team members.

  • Develop and maintain adult care classes at either Prescott or Prescott Valley Location or Zoom, when necessary.
  • Organize Adult classes
    • Request registration and promotion from Communications
    • Order supplies
    • Connect with Leaders to ensure they are prepared
    • Order and maintain equipment/supplies for the class(es)

8.  Counseling

Responsible for overseeing and managing the creative arts budget. Ensures that all guidelines for expenses and purchases are followed by team members.

  • Maintain a strong network of relevant Professionals Counseling Partners
  • Communicate referrals and scholarship information with counseling partners
  • Connect church staff or church family attenders with appropriate counseling partners according to their needs
  • Maintain schedules for lay counselors, as needed
  • Identify, recruit, train, and care for lay counselors
  • Plan, organize and host hospitality events
  • Develop and manage counseling support groups, as needed
  • Create and Manage Counseling intake forms and scholarship requests according to HIPPA standards
  • Oversee, manage and adhere to counseling budget, including but not limited to scholarships. All in with coordination with the Finance office

 

9.  Staff & Serve Team Supervision and Development

Responsible for providing leadership to the Care Ministry. The Care Pastor leads, evaluates and mentors existing Care staff and serve team and prioritizes future care ministry staff and/or serve team needs. Includes the following responsibilities:

  • Supervise the Care Ministry in day-to-day operational activities
  • Oversee the training and development of the Care team
  • Recruit and empowering serve team to serve for scheduled ministry programs
  • Maintain a strong network of relevant Care professionals and resources
  • Develop ministry partnerships with outside professionals that share Heights Church’s commitment to excellence

10.  Care Administrative Tasks

Responsible for overseeing and executing the administrative tasks to create a smooth operating ministry. This is accomplished by:

  • Working with the ministries to ensure program and initiatives within the Care ministry are communicated and available to our church family and community.
  • Organize travel for Care Conferences
  • Assist with and manage Care budget
    • Submit receipts to Finance Department
  • Available for all Crisis calls on and off schedule (including but not limited to hospice, death and suicide calls)
    • Organize Care classes for Reboot Combat, Reboot First Responders, Reboot Trauma and Grief Share.
    • Request registrations and Advertising from Communications.
    • Order Supplies
    • Connect with Leaders and make sure they have what the need for the class.
    • Order and Maintain equipment/supplies for this ministry.
    • Partner with local churches:
      • Quad City Christian
      • Mountain Valley Church
    • Maintain Grief Share information on the National Greif Share website.
  • Serve Team appreciation and thank you notes
