After 104 years of gospel witness in Des Moines, Iowa, First Federated Church was “replanted” to Urbandale, Iowa, a suburb of Des Moines, and reconstituted as The Mission Church (TMC). TMC is a Bible-Based, Christ-centered, Gospel-focused, non-denominational church. We strongly emphasize making disciples that make disciples and see our ministry reach as both local and global. We have a strong global missions ministry seeking to develop and promote an equally strong local missions footprint. TMC is looking for a Worship Pastor/Director who has like passions to help us develop and grow in our stated objectives. Job Summary:

In conjunction with, and under the direction and oversight of the Senior Pastor, this position will provide overall leadership, development and direction to TMC’s worship/music ministry.

Education:

A degree in music is desired.

A degree or certified training in Biblical studies is desired.

Experience – Proficiencies: 

5 years of experience in leading worship in a local church setting. Successful candidates must demonstrate the following proficiencies:

  • Accomplished piano, keyboard, and/or guitar performance.
  • Gifted vocal ability to lead Worship Team and congregation in song.
  • Effective leadership and ongoing mentoring of a volunteer team.
  • Strong organization, communication, and relational skills for leading worship, team members and recruiting new members.
  • Proficient in using ProPresenter and Planning Center.

Doctrine:

Must be in full agreement with TMC’s published *doctrinal statement.

Clearances:

Must be able to pass sex offender, child sexual abuse, and criminal background checks.

Biblical Qualifications:

The Worship Pastor is to be a born-again believer, and must meet elder/pastoral qualifications as listed in 1 Timothy 3:2-7; Titus 1:5-9;1 Peter 5:2-3 and demonstrate a willingness to be a servant leader, Matthew 20:25-28.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Worship Pastor/Director

  • Create an inviting, worshipful atmosphere that helps people connect with and respond to God, utilizing a broad range of musical styles from hymns to modern worship songs and Scripture readings.
  • Select music/songs that are theologically sound according to TMC’s doctrinal statement. Songs that call the church’s focus toward God (Father, Son, Holy Spirit), that are sung to or about God rather than man, are a must for this position. 
  • Recruit, audition, develop, disciple, and supervise, volunteers who participate in your ministry.
  • Lead and direct Sunday worship services, including other special service opportunities like Christmas Eve, Good Friday, etc.
  • Schedule Worship Team members in Planning Center and conduct weekly rehearsals with the band and vocalists.
  • Oversee the Tech Director.
  • Work in cooperation with the Tech director and personnel to ensure proper sound mixing, volume levels, lighting schemes, and graphic displays.
  • Oversee stage setup and presentation.
  • Work with the youth worship team, helping them develop as musicians and vocalists.

General Media Duties

  • Oversee and work closely with our part-time tech director for Sunday service A/V.
  • Manage design, content, and updates related to the church website (WordPress)
  • Monitor live streaming of video via web and social media for Sunday morning service and archive video for use online. Advance our live stream capabilities to include better production quality and additional social media platforms.
  • Create, manage, organize, and publish weekly sermon podcasts and mid-week video announcements (Mid-Week Connection) on our various platforms (Spotify, Apple, YouTube Music, SoundCloud)
  • Create, manage, and publish content on the church’s Facebook page and advance the church’s social media online presence on additional social media platforms like Instagram, etc.
  • Create digital and print graphics for weekly communication via email blast (MailChimp).
  • Produce and create still and motion graphics, message openers/bumpers for use during services as well as video media for special events and general communication.

Staff Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain regular office hours. 
  • Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings.
  • Attend and participate in weekly pastoral staff meetings.

Administrative Duties

  • Develop and manage an annual budget for the worship/media ministries.
  • In conjunction with the tech director, oversee management, acquisition, disposal, and usage of worship arts and media equipment, instruments, and music, including copyright adherence.
