JOB TITLE: Senior Pastor
REPORTS TO: the Elder and Deacon Boards, and the Western Conference Superintendent
POSITION STATUS: Full time
POSITION DESCRIPTION: The overall role of the Senior Pastor is to lead and shepherd the Church family, as well as guide and assist the Elders, Deacons, and others in leadership roles in the administration and spiritual life of the Church. Having a firm grasp and belief in the purpose, values, goals, and doctrine of the MBF Church, the Senior Pastor will possess the ability to align, guide, and motivate Church staff, leaders, and congregation in pursuit of the Church mission and goals. The Senior Pastor will ensure that the systems, practices, and policies of the Church support its ministry activities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1) Equip the congregation for works of service—Lead and shepherd the congregation, guiding members to a personally deeper, more mature relationship with Jesus Christ, and enabling and motivating members to carry out “the Great Commission”.
2) Preach the Word of God—Deliver inspiring and Bible-focused sermons that encourage spiritual growth and living God’s Word in everyday life.
3) Counseling & Pastoral care—Provide wise and helpful counsel and compassionate support for individuals and families in the Church. In a similar manner, leadership should be provided to resolve conflicts that may arise within the Church body. Ensure members of the Church body in need of visitation, encouragement, and help are promptly and compassionately served.
4) Community involvement—Personally be an active participant in the community and encourage the congregation to likewise be active in the community.
5) General oversight—Provide general oversight and leadership of Church functions, working in collaboration with Church leaders. See that the operational aspects of the Church function smoothly, efficiently, and effectively.
6) Planning—The Senior Pastor, in collaboration with the leadership of the Church, will cast and maintain a vision and goals for the Church and facilitate strategies and action steps to achieve them.
QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES:
1) Demonstrate a personal love and commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and a life that reflects Biblical principles.
2) Possess and exhibit a strong Biblical knowledge, belief, and passion for God’s Word.
3) Graduate level degree (Would potentially consider someone who is presently pursuing education or is willing to pursue seminary training or Central School of Ministry).
4) Must have a minimum of 3 years of active ministry within a church or para-church organization.
5) Must have a strong, unqualified recommendation from their Church Pastor.
6) Must possess skill and competency in counseling, outreach, and the ability to connect with people from diverse backgrounds and situations—a heart for the people.
SALARY & BENEFITS:
The salary package is developed utilizing the “Church Compensation Guide and Handbook,” which establishes the median values for salaries based on position experience, education, location, and church context. This methodology provides a framework to establish a fair and appropriate compensation package. A 4-bedroom parsonage is provided as a part of the compensation package. Other components include travel allowances, education/conference support, and others.
