Position Summary
The NexGen Pastor reports to the Senior Pastor.
The Next Generation (Next Gen) Pastor at Awaken Church plays a vital role in cultivating and guiding the spiritual development of young members, from children to young adults, and in creating a robust, supportive community for families. This position calls
for a leader with vision and strategic insight to oversee all age-based ministries. The Next Gen Pastor will provide direction for program initiatives, foster a team of engaged volunteers, and actively build partnerships within the church and broader community.
This role is essential for nurturing faith and connection across generations, ensuring alignment with Awaken Church’s mission to inspire lasting spiritual growth.
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop and communicate a clear vision for the Next Gen ministries, aligning with Awaken Church’s mission to nurture faith from childhood through young adulthood. Implement strategic plans for spiritual growth, community engagement, and ministry cohesion
across all age groups from children to young adults.
- Direct and oversee all age-based ministries (Children (e.g., nursery, preschool, elementary), Students and Young adults). This includes curriculum selection, event planning, and coordinating weekly programming. Manage program budgets, schedules, and ensure
resources effectively support ministry goals.
- Recruit, equip, and inspire volunteers to serve in Next Gen ministries, providing regular training, mentorship, and support to develop a strong volunteer culture. Establish a foundation for parent-led discipleship within Next Gen Ministries, fostering family
engagement in spiritual growth. Develop a leadership pipeline to ensure volunteers and staff are well-prepared to mentor and disciple young members effectively.
- Actively communicate with families, offering support and resources to help parents cultivate their children's spiritual lives at home. Create family-oriented events and provide guidance for family discipleship.
- Serve as a representative of Awaken Church within local schools and community events. Establish relationships that encourage youth participation in church activities and provide support for their spiritual and personal growth in all areas of life.
- Collaborate with other church ministry leaders to integrate Next Gen ministries within the larger church structure. Participate in staff meetings, church-wide initiatives, and special events as required.
- Participate in the shepherding responsibilities of Awaken Church as needed.
Skills and Qualifications
- Demonstrates a deep, active relationship with Christ, modeling biblical values and moral responsibility in all areas of life.

- Ability to develop and implement long-term ministry strategies that meet the spiritual needs of children, youth, and young adults.
- Strong communicator (written, verbal, etc) with the ability to connect well with young people, parents, volunteers, and church leadership.
- Detail-oriented and proficient in managing budgets, planning events, and tracking ministry progress.
- Skilled in recruiting and mentoring leaders and volunteers, with an emphasis on fostering a collaborative team environment.
- Able to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, addressing challenges with creativity and a positive attitude.
- Demonstrates an ability to care for and host others.
- Proficient in ministry management software and systems (e.g. Planning Center systems, G-Suite, Google Docs, etc.).
- Ability to resolve conflict through means of Biblical wisdom and counsel.
- Demonstrate the ability to collaborate with other departments and staff members.
