Why You Want This Job

New Heights is a rapidly growing church full of people who love Jesus, love to serve, are generous, and desire to reach future generations with the Gospel. We have a senior pastor who deeply values student and young adult ministry, having served as a youth pastor for several years himself and being a dad to 5 teenagers, 2 of whom are young adults. We have excellent Bible teaching and a deep desire to be a church that is pleasing to Jesus. New Heights values deep relationships (for real). The Tri-Cities is a great place to live and raise a family, and our church is a great place to grow in Christ and ministry skills.

Youth Ministry

Where We Want to Go

We are looking for a youth director for grades 6-12 who can partner with families toward the goal of making disciples. We believe Christian students need fellowship with other teens who love Jesus. To that end, we want our youth group to be a place where students have fun and enjoy fellowship but are also discipled and called up to maturity in Christ. The goal is that when they graduate, they are ready to move into adult life in the church body.

Where We Are

Our youth ministry recently took a hit when the former youth pastor left the church relatively abruptly. A solid member of the church has been helping to lead the youth group in the interim, but we are looking for a more permanent solution. While the numbers have been low in this interim period, they have recently started swinging up (to around 20) and the church is growing quickly. We believe we are starting to attract new families and want to invest in this vital area of the church.

Abilities / Skills / Qualifications

  • Have an engaging personality that brings positive energy to interactions with students but also the ability and credibility to be serious when correction is needed.
  • Effectively communicate with parents and prove worthy of their trust by showing good judgment and discernment.
  • Be able to effectively teach biblically faithful and relevant messages and Bible studies to students.
  • Be able to plan and communicate in advance with parents, youth leaders, and students.
  • Must work well with others and be comfortable recruiting and training volunteers.
  • Work with Microsoft Office and Planning Center (can be taught).
  • Have a heart for students.

Responsibilities

  • Know the lives of our students, pray for them, and serve as an example for them.
  • Plan one fun event per month.
  • On the other weeks of the month, services should include a time of Bible study and then breaking up into groups (boys and girls) for further discussion and prayer. You will need to prepare the Bible study/message and the discussion questions.
  • Plan to attend a summer camp or go on a summer camping road trip every year.
  • Encourage and, where needed, disciple youth leaders. Know their lives, pray for them, meet with them, etc.
  • Regularly meet with and report to the senior pastor.
  • Work with the Worship Director to develop times of worship in youth services, incorporating students wherever possible.
  • Grow the youth group numerically through invite-friendly events and training students to bring their friends / evangelize.

Young Adults Ministry

Where We Want to Go

We are looking for someone who can help shepherd our young adults toward maturity in Christ by facilitating fellowship, the building of meaningful relationships, and Bible studies with small group discussions focused on discipleship. We envision a young adult ministry that helps bridge the gap between high school and those next life stages of marriage and career under the leadership of someone who can serve as an example of what it means to live as a Jesus follower.

Where We Are

We have a decent number of young adults (a few dozen) who attend a few different small groups in our church but currently have no ministry specifically for young adults.

Abilities / Skills / Qualifications

  • Have an engaging personality and positive energy but also the ability and credibility to be serious when needed (in public or private).
  • Be able to effectively teach biblically faithful, relevant messages and Bible studies that grow the listener in Christ and speak to the challenges presented by the culture.
  • Be able to effectively plan and communicate with young adults.
  • Must work well with others and be comfortable recruiting and training volunteers.
  • Work with Microsoft Office and Planning Center (can be taught).
  • Have a heart for young adults.

Responsibilities

  • Know the lives of our young adults, pray for them, and serve as an example for them.
  • Work to create a social community for young adults in the church by doing things like planning monthly fun events that are easy to bring friends to, taking the initiative to get young adults to grab coffee or food after church services, and getting together for holidays, sporting events, etc.
  • Prepare Bible studies/teachings and small group discussion questions the weekly gatherings.
  • Encourage and, where needed, disciple leaders. Know their lives, pray for them, meet with them, etc.
  • Regularly meet with and report to the senior pastor.

Spiritual Life and Character

  • Meet the biblical requirements for deacons as described in 1 Timothy 3:8-13.
  • Have a consistent and disciplined walk with Christ including daily time in the Word and prayer.
  • Display clear evidence of a life lived under the Lordship of Christ in good and bad times, marriage, parenting, work, relationships, and all areas of life.
  • If married, your spouse should love Christ and the Church deeply.
  • Display Christlikeness and servant-heartedness, especially in your dealings with others.
  • Practice financial giving to the church in a manner consistent with the New Testament Scriptures.
  • Agree with our Statement of Faith.
  • Pursue church membership.

Compensation and Work Hours

Our church has been blessed with resources that will enable us to provide compensation based on qualifications, experience, ability, and the cost of living in the Tri-Cities. Our leaders care about the families of our staff team members and will offer market rate benefits and salary levels.

This level of care extends to the expected work hours. We want team members to live in a healthy, sustainable rhythm while functioning at a high level and taking responsibility for their areas of ministry.

About New Heights Church

Our Church’s Theology & Distinctives

  • We are an expositional Bible-teaching church.
  • We hold historically orthodox, biblical beliefs regarding issues like gender, sexuality, marriage, and abortion.
  • We are led by a plurality of elders who share equal authority. The senior pastor is one of the elders, is their equal, and serves as the spiritual leader of the church.
  • We are Complementarian.
  • Our eschatology is Pre-Millennial and Pre-Trib.

A Note from Our Elders About Our Church and Culture

New Heights is a church family where the average age is in the upper 50s, but the church is passionate about reaching younger generations. They recently welcomed Jeff Thompson as the new senior pastor (he’s 42), and our congregation loves to serve and give generously.

We are a church that strongly desires to be biblically substantive. We love God’s Word and pursue the “one another’s” of Scripture through small groups. This is why we want models of ministry that do something similar and grow students and young adults into maturity in Christ as fully functioning members of the body.

We do not believe we compete with the world; the Church is to be something altogether different. We want to continue pursuing the real thing – a church dependent on the grace and truth of Jesus and the power of His Spirit. We want to offer the Lord the very best we can, but we also want to do church in a way that would still work if we lost our building and all our technology. We really do believe that Christ is the Cornerstone, and we never want our church to be built on anything else.

Our church is not trying to turn into a corporation with countless employees. We value the lay service of our brothers and sisters who make up the body. So, we’re looking for someone who can empower volunteers for greater ministry while caring for and protecting them from the possibility of burnout.

If you’re passionate about Jesus and long to be part of a church that exists to please, bless, and honor Him above all else, we’d love to talk with you.
