Lead Pastor – New Hope Assembly of God
Job Description
-Primary leader responsible for overseeing the church body and staff in carrying
out the mission, vision and values of God in our community.
-The essential duties and responsibilities of the Lead Pastor will be carried out
in conjunction with the elders, ministry staff and ministry leaders in order to
implement the mission and vision of the church. These essential duties and
responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Prayer, Ministry
of the Word, Leadership. Evangelism & Discipleship, Shepherding &
Teaching, Community Outreach and Pastoral Care.

• Stay fresh in relationship with Christ, balanced with family and creative
in ministry
• Be personally committed to Life Groups and accountability as a key
strategy for personal growth and discipleship
• Maintain consistent Christian testimony
• Maintain relational, spiritual and professional trust with other elders and
staff.
Primary Responsibilities
Prayer
• Have a healthy prayer life
• Ensure the consistent and fervent presence of prayer in all aspects of
church life
• Invest consistent time in the study, research and dream of where God is
growing and taking New Hope
Ministry of the Word
• Oversee the planning and leading of worship services
• Be the primary communicator able and willing to teach the Word of God
in an accurate, relevant and applicable manner
Leadership
• Oversee day-to-day operations of the church building, programs and staff
• Promote a team-based ministry model
• Nurture and communicate the vision for the church to all staff, leadership
and laity
• Provide directional and visionary leadership for the ministry of the
church
• Lead the staff through appropriate direction, supervision, evaluation,
counsel, care and accountability
• Serve the church as an elder and oversee board of elders
• Manage the annual budget and other financial commitments of the
church
Evangelism & Discipleship
• Oversee and encourage multiplication of ministry (teaching, leadership,
vision development) by developing, equipping and empowering both the
staff and lay leadership of the church
• Be the chief disciple maker by making disciples who make disciples
• In collaboration with the ministry staff and Life Group leaders,
coordinate people’s involvement in ministry, ongoing personal
discipleship and a Life Group
Shepherding & Teaching
• Encourage and shepherd the spiritual formation of the congregation as
the lead teacher and communicator
• Conduct regular and frequent meetings with the ministry staff, both
individually and jointly, and work to assist and equip the ministry staff
in achieving and exceeding ministry objectives as defined by their job
descriptions
• Develop and lead a class for prospective partners (members)
Community Outreach
• Champion the cause of Christ to our community
Pastoral Care
• Conduct all appropriate weddings and funerals
• Provide opportunity for the visitation and counseling of those who are ill
and in need
• Ensure the proper practice of baptism, baby dedication and communion
in the church
Primary Communicator
The Lead Pastor will be the primary preacher for the church and will teach
God’s Word faithfully, according to sound doctrine. The Lead Pastor should be
committed to an exposition of Holy Scripture that is accurate, relevant,
authentic and personally applicable. The Lead Pastor will:
• Present an accurate and applicable explanation of the Word of God
• Be an authentic communicator, easy to understand and down-to-earth
• Demonstrate a willingness and ability to share with others in a large
group setting and one-on-one from his heart and life
• Preach approximately 80% of Sundays within a calendar year
• Work with the board of elders to create an annual budget
• Communicate preaching series to ministry staff and volunteers in order
to coordinate their respective responsibilities
• Prepare and conduct annual staff evaluations
• Plan preaching for all special services (Christmas, Easter, etc.)
Primary Relationships
• Work with elders in overseeing the spiritual needs of the body and the
integrity of the ministry as it relates to the church’s purpose and values
• Work with the staff to encourage and empower them toward effective
balanced ministry
New Hope Assembly of God is seeking to fill its open position for a Lead
Pastor. This vibrant Church with a strong community influence is located in
Elizabeth, Pennsylvania; a town of approximately 15,000 people located 12
miles southeast of downtown Pittsburgh. Our church was planted in 1986 and
moved to its current facilities in 1992.
We are searching for a visionary Pastor to come in and lead our church into
even greater Kingdom purposes. Must be an effective communicator with a
warm personality who enjoys doing life and ministry together with others.
Search Criteria:
• Licensed/Ordained by the Assemblies of God
• A Bachelor’s Degree in Theology or related study
• Sustained ministry experience in a church setting
• Experience working with or leading a multi-person staff
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other commonly used
technologies
• Evidence of ability to recruit, equip and deploy volunteer teams
• Work within budget parameters
