Job Title: NextGen Pastor

Status: Full-time, exempt

Direct Report: Executive Pastor

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Heritage Church is a multi-site and multi-generational church in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago. We are passionate about helping people find and follow God in a way that is authentic and relevant to our culture today. We create environments, ministries, and programming with un-churched people in mind. We want to manage the tension of helping people feel at home in their search for Christ and be a place where believers are thriving in their faith. To do this we are intentional about creating engaging environments for authentic biblical community that mobilize people to live on mission.

The NextGen Pastor will work directly with the Senior Pastor and Executive Pastor to shape the culture of Heritage Church by envisioning new and exciting ways to reach young people. This individual will lead an existing staff made up of hard-working and caring men and women and a volunteer team who is eager to grow to help kids and students find and follow Jesus. This leader comes with experience in and a passion for reaching the next generation and their families with creative and engaging solutions to an ever-changing culture. They approach ministry with positivity and belief rather than doubt and skepticism. They advocate and care for their needs and have devoted their life’s mission to seeing them find and follow Jesus. They will work in a church who truly sees young people not as the church of tomorrow, but as the church of today.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

•   Heritage Kids (birth - 5th grade) - Oversee team of 3 part-time staff who are responsible for dissemination of curriculum, resources and care for volunteers, kids and their families, comprised of around 300 people weekly.

•   Heritage Youth (6th - 12th grade) - Oversee staff, multiple volunteers and a growing group of students and families.

•   Lead Heritage Kids and Heritage Youth staff in accountable ministry action plans and opportunities.

•   Serve as senior-level director for Kids and Youth staff, volunteers and families, ensuring clear standards, inspiring vision and measurable outcomes.

•   Advise and influence Kids and Youth ministries at 2 other campuses.

REQUIRED SKILLS

•   Excellent written and verbal skills in multiple contexts, both with students and parents.

•   Strong administrative skills including excellent time-management

•   Previous experience leading a staff and volunteers

•   Solutions-focused and positive attitude

THE DREAM CANDIDATE

•   You love Kid’s Ministry and Student Ministry enough individually that you could see yourself devoting all of your time to either one.

•   You understand that a wholistic approach to ministering to the next generation gives us a better chance at serving the entire family.

•   You can help champion and lead multiple specialists and assist them to both grow in their respective lanes and continually increase their collaborative skills.

•   You dream about ensuring that when students graduate from High School, they don’t graduate from their faith.

•   You see ministry to the next generation as a partnership with parents - to help kids and students grow in their faith will include helping shape the faith of their parents.

•   You aren’t afraid to delegate. In fact, you can already see the “dream org chart” for how we will grow into the future.

•   You take quick and decisive action when things don’t go as expected

•   You are a platform communicator and would enjoy speaking on the occasional Sunday morning.

•   You have a bend toward reaching those who aren’t already part of the church and you aren’t afraid to take some risks to do it.
