SPIRITUAL FORMATION PASTOR

SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Spiritual Formation Pastor at Illuminate Community Church will be a highly skilled and theologically grounded individual with a passion for developing disciples, a commitment to biblical orthodoxy, and a heart for leading and caring for a high-capacity discipleship staff. Serving alongside the Executive Pastor, this leader will oversee the adult and family discipleship ministries, managing multiple teams and leaders to facilitate life-transforming discipleship pathways that lead our congregation into deeper relationships with Jesus and one another. This individual will possess superior management and organizational skills to lead effectively within a fast-paced environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Discipleship & Spiritual Growth
- Alongside the Pastoral team, Develop and implement robust, theologically sound discipleship pathways that foster spiritual growth and maturity.
- Facilitate environments where congregants of all ages can encounter God’s truth, engage in authentic relationships, and grow in their faith.
- Lead Bible studies, discipleship classes, and group sessions that challenge participants to deepen their understanding of Scripture and Christian doctrine.
Teaching & Pastoral Leadership
- Serve as a primary teacher and leader within the church’s discipleship ministries, effectively communicating biblical truths with clarity, relevance, and authenticity.
- Provide theological training and guidance to staff, volunteers, and congregants, ensuring alignment with church doctrine and beliefs.
- Be available for pastoral counseling and spiritual guidance, offering support in personal and spiritual matters.
- Offer pastoral care when needed, including but not limited to weddings, funerals, and baptisms.
Team Management & Development
- Oversee and develop leaders within various adult, youth, and family discipleship ministries, ensuring they are equipped and supported to serve their teams effectively.
- Recruit, train, and develop volunteers to lead small groups, Bible studies, discipleship initiatives, and teams.
- Set performance goals and provide regular feedback, fostering a culture of spiritual and personal growth within the ministry teams marked by authentic accountability.
Organizational Leadership & Ministry Development
- Collaborate with the Lead and Executive Pastors and other ministry leaders to align discipleship goals with Illuminate Community Church's overall mission and vision.
- Develop, implement, and oversee strategic plans for the spiritual formation ministry, ensuring they are adaptable and sustainable.
- Manage budgets, resources, and schedules, maintaining accountability for program effectiveness and stewardship.
- Design and implement effective systems to enhance ministry efficiency, communication, and overall impact.
Community Engagement
- Act as a spiritual leader within the community, encouraging congregants to live out their faith through community, service, and evangelism.
- Engage with and support the congregation in ways that deepen their connection to God and one another, fostering a culture of hospitality and openness.
- Represent Illuminate Community Church with integrity and compassion in the broader community, building relationships that extend the church’s influence.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of:
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and skills in Adobe InDesign desirable)
- Extensive knowledge of the Bible and theology
- Comfortable with learning new database systems and virtual platforms
- Spiritual disciplines and practices that encourage spiritual growth.
- Fulfills the qualifications of a biblical elder (1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:6-9)
- Demonstrated competency in:
- Strong biblical teaching skills, with a passion for helping others understand and apply Scripture to their lives.
- People and Organizational Management
- Effective stewardship of multiple ministry budgets
- Curriculum development and discipleship program design.
- Leading groups of volunteers in significant ministry activities.
- Leadership in periods of organizational transition; ability to move culture in a new direction.
- Multi-tasking and organizational skills.
- Relational skills, including a high value of people, aspiring to serve others, fostering a healthy and amiable spiritual environment, being approachable and accessible, working collaboratively with others and in team environments, and appreciation for one’s own and other’s

- Ability to:
- Communicate and teach in small (1-150 persons), medium (150-300 persons), and large venues (300+ persons).

- Education and/or experience:
- Master of Divinity or equivalent required.
- 10-15+ years of experience in ministry leadership.
- 10-15+ years of related experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Constant sitting, standing, moving, and viewing of screens. Occasional lifting of 20 pounds or more.
