Position Description
High School Outreach Director
Ministry Area: Next Generation Ministries/Youth
Reports To: Director of Youth Ministries
Direct Reports on Staff: Summer Interns
Position Description: The person in this position will work with the Director of Youth Ministries, youth staff, and volunteer youth leaders to cultivate a community that values relationships, longs to be transformed by Jesus Christ, and seeks to live as people sent by God.
Specific Responsibilities:
The person in this position will provide principle leadership and vision for the campus, fellowship, and missional efforts for the high school ministry. This leader will build Christ-centered relationships with students, parents, and volunteer youth leaders through the following ministry areas:
- Reach out to MDPC students and un-churched students by attending school lunches and events at schools and in the community;
- Support and develop student-led campus ministry efforts;
- Help students cultivate a heart to share the Gospel.
- Plan and coordinate programs that foster fellowship and community;
- Pursue relationships with students both within and outside of MDPC programs;
- Develop active ministry with students.
- Plan Outreach events that allow churched and un-churched students to connect, for the purpose of bringing kids into the Kingdom of God;
- Help students foster a biblical understanding of God’s mission in the world and their part in that mission; support them in living as people sent by God in their schools, families, neighborhoods;
- Provide Mission Trips and Service Projects for students to serve others, and take kids on experiences where they practice living out their faith and meeting the needs of others in the name of Jesus Christ.
- Utilization of Volunteers:
- Recruit, train, support, and equip volunteer leaders for high school fellowship activities and service projects;
- Contributory role in selecting, training, and providing work direction for approximately 25 adult volunteers.
- Work collaboratively with the High School Discipleship Director and participate in small group discipleship, teaching, and leadership efforts as needed;
- Along with other members of the Youth Staff, plan and implement large events, retreats, and mission trips;
- Work cohesively with the Youth Ministries Director and the Youth Staff in carrying out the mission of Christ’s church, MDPC Youth Ministry, and MDPC;
- Pray regularly for students, leaders, and parents.
- Financial Accountability (not including payroll)
- Manage the budget for high school fellowship, outreach, and missional activities (approximately $15,000)
Qualifications:
- A BS or BA from an accredited college or university
- Three years of youth-related ministry experience is preferred
- A sincere love for youth and a desire to share Jesus Christ with them
- A willingness to have fun and an ability to connect to students
- Proven skill and experience in creating, organizing, and administering youth activities
- A contagious faith and an active life of Christian discipleship that is modeled in an authentic way to youth.
Other Requirements or Special Conditions:
- An understanding of the complexity of youth culture and group and family dynamics
- An ability to work effectively as part of a team and in a large church environment
- Ability to facilitate small group discussion and teach in large group settings
- Confidence to enter into “students’ domain”
- An ability to inspire, support, and mentor students and adult volunteers
- A strong knowledge of the Bible
