Job Description for Director of Worship
The mission of Lansdale United Methodist Church is to Praise God, Make Disciples, and Serve All. In fulfilling this mission, the Director of Worship will demonstrate a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, proclaiming Him as their Lord and Savior, and will seek to glorify God through all ministry activities as well as the conduct of their personal life. The Director of Worship Ministry will adhere to the faith and doctrine of Lansdale UMC and is expected to participate in the life and ministries of the church.
Job Responsibilities:
- The Director of Worship Ministry is responsible for developing a music program in the broadest sense of that term. Consulting as a resource to children’s choir directors, starting additional worship teams as needed, enhancing the ministries of the church through worship experiences, implementing special programs such as musicals or Christmas programs.
- Work directly with the pastor to assist in choosing music and scripture to enhance the sermon and worship experience, leading the congregation into an experience of God’s presence during corporate worship.
- Be directly under the supervision of the pastor and accountable to Staff Parish Relations Committee.
- Work directly with the Worship Team, including instrumentalists, singers, choir, bells, or other servants within worship ministry.
- Work alongside the pastor in choosing special music for holidays such as Easter, Christmas, and/or special worship events.
- Will attend rehearsals for worship ministry and provide leadership and direction.
- Will attend regularly scheduled staff meetings and worship team meetings as determined by Director of Worship Ministry.
- Will lead worship during the worship service weekly.
- Will recruit singers and musicians to broaden the base of participation in the worship team ministry of the church. This includes recruitment of persons to perform special music.
- Will attend worship services regularly.
- Will examine and implement ways to reach out to the community to help grow the kingdom of God.
- Will be responsible for the worship budget and casting a vision for moving worship ministry forward based upon God’s will and calling for this congregation.
- Will provide child abuse clearance and state police record check/FBI clearance upon hire and adhere to safe sanctuaries guidelines.
The church covenants to:
- Appropriate committees of the church shall cooperate with the Director of Worship Ministry in the area of general planning and leadership of the church’s worship program.
- Funds will be budgeted annually for music and guest performers and purchasing of materials necessary for worship ministry.
- The salary will be reviewed annually at the time of preparation of the institutional budget in order to consider adjustment due to merit, longevity, and/or proper reflection of further educational credentials, additional or reduced duties on the part of the worship leader.
