Village Bible Church (Naperville, IL)

Campus Teaching Pastor

THE BIG PICTURE

Village Bible Church (villagebible.church/naperville/) is seeking a Campus Teaching Pastor to provide leadership over its Naperville campus. The Campus Teaching Pastor is the key teacher and leader in the campus. This pastor preaches regularly, establishes strategy, recruits leaders, champions ministry, works to assimilate people into small group connections and ministry involvement while providing pastoral care and up-front leadership to the campus. Though VBC as a whole is led by Guiding Elders, a Lead Pastor and Executive Pastors, the Campus Teaching Pastor is the key leader in the Naperville campus. He has great autonomy to lead the campus in a way that fits the Naperville context. With more than 200,000 residents, top schools, and a thriving downtown, Naperville is consistently ranked as one of the best places in the country to live and raise a family!

History

Village Bible Church was founded in 1971 in Sugar Grove, Illinois. In 2022 it adopted what became its Naperville campus, the sixth VBC campus. VBC has spent the past 2 years remodeling the building, establishing discipleship pathways, and building a small group ministry. The campus is now ready for a full-time Teaching Pastor to engage the community of Naperville.

Ministry Responsibilities

The Campus Teaching Pastor is the primary preacher in the campus, delivering the weekly message approximately 40 weeks per year. As the primary leader and up-front point-person in the campus, he is also responsible to “equip the saints for the work of ministry” (Eph. 4:12). While the Campus Teaching Pastor oversees the Sunday worship service and related ministries, pastoral care, and small group ministries, it is assumed he will engage in a process for training people to lead and serve in those various ministry areas. The Campus Teaching Pastor should be an equipping leader, not the person doing all the work. While an average ministry week will be 50 hours, VBC insists on protecting a weekly Sabbath day of rest and provides for sabbaticals per church policy.

Qualifications

The Campus Teaching Pastor should live in accordance with the qualifications for elders found in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1. He should regularly engage in spiritual disciplines. If married, he should lead his family well. He should be a leader with a track record of equipping others for ministry. Five years of pastoral leadership experience in an evangelical church and a Bible college or seminary degree is preferred.

What a Strong Candidate Would Look Like:

  • Character // Someone who enjoys God, loves people, and is passionate about serving in the local church. Cherishing the gospel, demonstrating the fruit of the Spirit, and relating well to people matters most in this role.
  • Reformed-Leaning Convictions // Someone who feels at home in the reformed stream of evangelicalism, both in regards to theology, ministry, and cultural engagement.
  • Pastoral Leadership // Someone who desires for every member to be known, cared for, and equipped to follow Jesus — even in a large church — and who believes that pastors / elders are meant to shepherd the church toward health, not just govern or oversee programs.
  • Evangelistic Impulse // Someone who is passionate about reaching non-Christians with the gospel and equipping the church for kind, thoughtful engagement with non-Christian neighbors.
  • Strategic Thinker // Someone who is able to evaluate and connect the dots between practices and the desired goals of a ministry while aligning different ministries to pull in the same direction
  • Leadership Development // Someone who loves investing in people, developing ministry leaders, and helping ministry teams grow and thrive

Benefits

For this full-time pastoral position, Village Bible Church provides generous salary, health and retirement benefits.
