Position Description:

The Young Adults Pastor/Director will oversee the ministry for those ages 18-35. The current ministry has growing numbers of those in the 25-35 y/0 range, and the church would love to see a more vibrant effort being made with those who fall in the “college age” group as well.
This new leader will be given much freedom as he or she forms and formats the next steps with the ministry.
There is a Sunday morning gathering, midweek men’s and women’s groups, and monthly events.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with staff to develop and execute a strategy for ministry to the Young Adult Community, their unique characteristics, and the growth of this age group in Houston.
  • Developed and personally led evangelism and outreach to the burgeoning young adult community in the neighborhood around the church.
  • Coordinate discipleship opportunities for Young Adults to grow in small groups and the community.
  • Work with the broader FPC staff to coordinate and promote service and mission projects for Young Adults within the church (helping with children and youth) and outside of the church (service in the Museum District, Montrose, Heights, etc.).
  • Provide pastoral support for Young Adults as they grow in their faith.
  • Identify and equip lay leaders to assist in the work of the ministry (specifically, small group leaders).
  • Maintain regular and effective communication with young adults and Young Adult leaders.
  • Integrate college-aged and young adults into the corporate identity and life of the FPC congregation.

 

What a Strong Candidate Would Look Like:

  • 4 year Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
  • Adherence to and alignment with ECO’s essential tenets
  • Knowledge of the Bible and Reformed Theology
  • Experience in evangelism
  • Creativity and entrepreneurial interest in developing new ways to reach out to the Young Adult Community
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to call on and attract Young Adults
  • Good administrative skills, including an ability to plan, develop, and carry out programs
  • A strong interest in worship, teaching scripture, evangelism, and service to the community
