In 1960 a group of people that had been meeting in the garage of George and Ethel Zimmerman, incorporated and our church officially began…first as First Christian Church of La Puente then as First Christian Church of Rowland Heights, in Southern California. I knew Ethel, as I grew up the church when it moved to the location in Rowland Heights. She was an incredible woman of God who I last saw in 2003 when she lived out in Temecula and was serving at a church that was helping me as I too was planting a church. The church had a strong ministry at that location in Rowland Heights, and many people came to know Jesus there- me included- and many people were sent out into ministry from there – me included.
In 1998 the church made the decision to move to the city of Diamond Bar as it would allow for further growth and with its strategic location this church could reach a wider radius of people.
With the move to Diamond Bar, the church changed its name and became known as Diamond Canyon Christian Church.
In 2016 DC3 sent out Mike Malatka and a small team to begin a work in Echo Park. That ministry took root at Golden West Christian Church which also has a rich history of ministry. Hope International University started there. The ICOM missions conference, which is a large international conference that our church has gone to for many years started there also. With a second location, a vision was born to be a multi-site church that would be one church, with one vision that meets in multiple locations.
We had planned to have one of those locations to be an online location and we had started to think about what we would need to do to make that happen sometime in early 2021. However, when Covid hit, that plan was fast tracked and we have now launched an online location that many of you have been able to enjoy for the last 6 months.
Beginning late last year, we have also talked about praying that God would help us increase to 5 locations. With our Diamond Bar campus, our Echo Park campus, and our Online campus, this makes three! God keeps moving us in a forward direction.
And just like it didn’t make sense to have the name FCC Rowland Heights when the church moved to Diamond Bar, our leadership decided it didn’t make sense to have the Diamond Canyon name when we are in multiple locations outside of Diamond Bar.
So, because we want to be a Landmark in various places to help people find their way to God, on Sunday, September 27, 2020, we have officially changed our name to LANDMARK CHRISTIAN CHURCH. We will be branded as Landmark Church and we will continue on this forward movement God has us on!
