About This Role 

The Children’s / Middle School Ministry Lead is responsible for overseeing and leading the church’s ministry from Birth through 8th Grade. This role involves managing a team of volunteers, fostering a positive church culture, and creating an environment of trust and gratitude. The Lead will develop and maintain programming, budgets, curriculum, small group leadership, and special events such as VBS and Middle School Summer Camp.  

This role offers an exciting opportunity for someone eager to engage in a new, collaborative approach and unique way of restructuring leadership roles within NextGen ministry. Leaders will oversee their specific ministry areas while lending their strengths and skills in a cooperative effort in all areas across NextGen, creating a more unified and impactful team environment.  

The ideal candidate will have a passion for all NextGen age groups, a strong commitment to pastoral care, mentoring, and helping children and students grow in their relationship with Jesus. 

 

Primary Role Responsibilities 

Provide oversight and advocacy for Elementary, Pre-K, Club 5/6, and Middle School Dream Team Leaders, including skill development, goal setting, performance reviews, prayer support, and personal development. 

Recruit, train, coach, and empower Children's Ministry leaders, ensuring they complete background checks and Ministry Safe training, and equip them to effectively teach and disciple children. 

Develop and implement strategies for engaging and assimilating new children and families into the church community. 

Coordinate with Missions Outreach to maintain strategies for reaching children in local schools, such as through Crossroad Kids Club. 

Manage and maintain the annual ministry budget, ensuring expenditures stay within budget. 

Provide pastoral care and oversight to children and their families. 

Collaborate with Young Adult/High School Pastors/Directors to facilitate transitions from children’s ministry all the way through young adult ministry, plan and execute NextGen events, and develop shared ministry ideas. 

Oversee all programming and ministry activities for Birth through 8th Grade during Sunday services, summer programming, and special events, including: 

  • Collaborate on age-appropriate curricula that is fun, creative, and encourages spiritual growth and formation. 
  • Work with the Special Needs Team to create Individual Spiritual Plans and supportive programming for special needs children and students. 
  • Implement and manage registration, classroom management, and policies in accordance with church guidelines and legal requirements. 
  • Ensure the safety and security of children and students, including managing check-in/check-out procedures and utilizing technology like Planning Center. 

Participate in staff meetings, providing updates on ministry activities and progress. 

Keep leadership informed of staff accomplishments, concerns, and vision. 

Maintain strong relationships and open communication with all church staff. 

 

Strengths & Skillsets 

Deep personal relationship with God and a solid understanding of His Word. 

Bachelor's Degree, Bible School Diploma, or relevant work experience in NextGen Ministry or a related field; experience with children and youth preferred. 

Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Planning Center, Canva, and social media is a plus, but not required. 

Understanding of Sunday school curriculum and resources for children and youth ministry. 

Strong administrative skills, flexibility, and the ability to meet deadlines. 

Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills, particularly with children. 

Effective recruiter and team player. 

Audio/Video skills are appreciated but not required. 

 

Details  

This position requires a minimum of (40) hours a week and (4) days in the office with flexibility on scheduling as it relates to specific days.
