Job Summary 

Under the oversight of the Creative Director (AVL, Worship, and Communications), and in collaboration with the Creative and Teaching Teams, the Technical Director will work to cultivate meaningful and transformative worship experiences at St. Mark’s Community Church. In addition, they will oversee the development, management, and implementation of all aspects of the AVL and Tech systems of the church and lead a healthy and vibrant volunteer community. Primary duties, responsibilities, and requirements will include: 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Oversee and execute Sunday morning service production under the oversight of the Worship Director and Creative Director 
  • Lead and recruit a strong and scalable volunteer tech community 
  • Manage all AVL and Tech systems at St. Mark’s Community Church 
  • Consult and support AVL and Tech needs of church ministries (Next Gen, groups, care, missions) 
  • Facilitate AVL and Tech for special events (e.g., funerals, weddings, concerts, and outside events) 
  • Stage design and implementation 
  • Outline budget proposals according to proposed technology upgrade recommendations 

  • Other relevant tasks as outlined by the Creative Director and Worship Director, as needed 

Technical and Relational Proficiencies 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse teams (staff, volunteers, and outside groups) 
  • 3+ years leading teams and overseeing A/V systems in a church/industry of similar or larger size 
  • Remain curious, current, and competent on tech trends in order to properly maintain AVL systems and to propose needed technological upgrades 
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines 
  • Solid understanding of deployment and maintenance of production systems, including digital mixing, AVL signal-flow, multi-camera video switching, and streaming technology 
  • Proficient in AVL software such as Chroma Que Vista, Waves platforms, Protools, Allen and Heath Consoles, Pro-Presenter, Blackmagic control software, Planning Center Online, Resolume, or similar platforms 
  • Bachelor’s degree in AVL/Technical Production or equivalent workplace training and experience 
  • Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting audiovisual software and hardware, including audio and video mixers, amplifiers, switchers, and control systems? 
  • High attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment 
  • Outstanding work ethic, a passion for AVL and Tech systems, and a drive to execute at a high level? 
  • Knowledge of industry best practices and safety guidelines related to audiovisual setup and operation? 
  • Physically capable of lifting and carrying heavy audiovisual equipment (minimum 50lbs), bending, climbing, and standing for extended periods? 
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical information to non-technical individuals 

 

Additional Experience 

  • Additional certifications, degrees, or experience in AVL technology or a related field are a plus 
  • IT skills and experience are a plus but not required 
  • Cinematography/Video Production skills and experience are a plus
