Position Summary

Bethel Church is in search of an Assistant Pastor or Director of Student Ministries to oversee the care and
discipleship of middle school students, while also assisting in the leadership of the broader Student
Ministry (Verge) at the Crown Point Campus. This role involves collaborating with the Pastor of Students
to shepherd all aspects of Verge CP and ensure impactful discipleship for middle school students, their
families, and their leaders.

Ultimately, Bethel wants to see the Verge Student Ministry achieve two primary goals: to reach all
students with the gospel message, demonstrating that Christ is better than anything the world offers, and
to encourage every student to take their next step with Jesus so that their lives become all about Him. To
accomplish these objectives, Verge focuses on:

• Developing a culture where every student is firmly rooted in Scripture, recognizing it as the
primary source of godliness and final authority.
• Encouraging a lifestyle of worship in all areas of life, including home, school, and all other
activities.
• Facilitating authentic community where like-minded believers can spur one another on toward
godliness.
• Empowering students to live purposefully on mission, sharing the gospel and serving others
around them.

Primary Responsibilities

1. Oversee & Shepherd Middle School Ministry

• Function as the primary teacher for middle school ministry. Under the leadership of the (lead)
Pastor of Student Ministries, develop weekly lessons tailored to the needs of Middle School
students.
• Maintain a culture/environment where students embrace Bethel Church’s core values: being
rooted in Scripture, practicing a lifestyle of worship, participating in authentic community, and
living purposefully on-mission by serving in the church and evangelizing the world.
• Develop and implement a strategy to cultivate spiritually intentional relationships (both leader-topeer
and peer-to-peer) within Verge's middle school ministry. Utilize small group settings as a
key tool for discipleship ministry.
• Create and execute Middle School-specific events and gatherings.
• Provide leadership to the Middle School Verge Student Leadership team (VSLT).
• Provide discipleship, counsel, and care to students and families facing a crisis or other critical
needs.

2. Cultivate Collaborative Relationships with Strategic Partners

• Ensure that Verge is effectively present within the local middle schools. Maintain a personal
presence in the school systems and prioritize networking with local community leaders.
• Work closely with Bethel’s Kids Ministry to ensure a smooth transition for students entering
middle school. Oversee Level-Up event in partnership with Bethel Kids to ensure 5th graders are
welcomed and acclimated into the Verge student ministry.
• Work with the (lead) Student Ministries Pastor to ensure Verge students transition to college and
careers with spiritual health.
• Collaborate with the Pastor or Director of Missions and/or Outreach to provide global and local
ministry opportunities for students (missions trips, local service projects, etc.).
• Maintain active engagement with parents. Develop a culture of partnership with parents so that
the discipleship of teens is a collaborative effort between parents and Verge.
• Collaborate with local and regional churches for large-scale events.
• Provide leadership and/or collaborative investment in large-scale Verge-specific events. Do this
in conjunction with the student ministry leadership at other campuses and under the leadership
of the Pastor of Student Ministries.

3. Aid in Administration for Verge Student Ministries

• Execute weekly Planning Center (PCO) for Verge Crown Point by mapping out services for both
High School and Middle School ministries in collaboration with the Pastor of Student Ministries.
• Collaborate with the Pastor of Student Ministries to develop and implement digital discipleship
through social media channels.
• Work in collaboration with the Crown Point Coordinator or Admin to ensure Bethel’s database
(the Hub) is up to date.

• Uphold the ministry in prayer. Lead others to pray regularly for the needs of the Crown Point
congregation.
• Participate in weekend services (by giving announcements, prayers, possible preaching, etc.).
• Participate in all required activities for Bethel Church staff, such as Sunday services (including
major holidays), staff meetings, prayer meetings, special events, training opportunities, etc.
• Assist with hospital visitation, weddings, funerals, and other pastoral functions (as needed).
• Oversee the budgets and fiscal management of responsible ministries.
• Other responsibilities may be added as new needs arise and personal gifting develops.
