In 1963, one of Reno’s most infamous hotel & bars was transformed into a building that became a safe haven for people in recovery. From these humble beginnings, the Reno-Sparks Gospel Mission is now one of Northern Nevada’s largest Christian providers of addiction recovery and support. Reno-Sparks Gospel Mission has provided healing and hope for people struggling with homelessness, hunger, poverty, abuse and addiction. We reach out to our hurting brothers and sisters to encourage them, to help them, and above all love them.

Thanks to the faithful support of our community, today more than 200,000 men, women and families have found Christ-centered hope and healing through our doors.

Since 1963, the Mission has:

• Served nearly 15,000,000 meals
• Provided more than 2,700,000 nights of warm beds
• Given away more than 2,000,000 pieces of clothing
• Helped more than 100,000 people struggling w/ alcohol & drug addiction

About the Accountant:

The Reno-Sparks Gospel Mission has an opening for an experienced and motivated Accountant to oversee all financial operations within the organization. The candidate will demonstrate Christ-like behavior and attitude in all duties and responsibilities. The candidate will work closely with the Executive Director in all areas of accounting and financial procedures and will play an important role in the overall financial goals of the organization. We are seeking an individual that is highly analytical and has 3-5 years of experience in financial roles. Prior experience in the non-profit is preferred.

The Accountant's Responsibilities Include: 

• Tracking Payments to external and internal stakeholders 

• Preparing Budgets 

• Processing Tax Payments

• Managing all accounting transactions 

• Handling Monthly, quarterly, and annual closings

• Reconcile Accounts payable and receivable 

• Ensure timely bank payments

• Compute taxes and prepare tax returns

• Manage balance sheets and profit/loss statements

• Report on the company’s financial health and liquidity 

• Audit financial transactions and documents

• Reinforce financial data confidentiality and conduct database backups when necessary 

• Comply with financial policies and regulations

• Provide strong Christian leadership to the Reno-Sparks Gospel Mission staff, guests, and anyone associated with the Gospel Mission

What You Bring: 

The following describes many of the characteristics of the ideal candidate for the Accountant:

Education & Experience

• Bachelor of Science in Accounting or Finance 

•  Work experience as an Accountant (2 - years experience)

• Excellent knowledge of accounting regulations and procedures, including the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) 

• Experience with accounting software QuickBooks

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Advanced MS Excel skills

• Experience with general ledger functions

• Strong attention to detail 

• A deep commitment to Jesus Christ and upholds the values of Reno-Sparks Gospel Mission

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze financial data.

• Demonstrates a high level of integrity and sound judgment. 

• Experience and working knowledge of accounting policies, procedures, and reporting requirements, including special rules for a Not-for-Profit entity. 

• Excellent communication, writing, and interpersonal skills.

• We are seeking a proactive individual who demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for improvement in our programs and systems.

• Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities effectively.
