Director of Discipleship

United Methodist Church of the Shepherd exists to connect people to the God who desperately loves all so that we can live as disciples in Christian community. COS is in St. Charles County, a suburb of St. Louis MO. Current worship attendance is approximately 500 people a weekend (online and in-person), with a growing number of younger families to create a multi-generational church. As a United Methodist Church we welcome and include all people (including LGBTQIA+ people), and are actively working to become more diverse to fully reflect God’s creation.

Director of Discipleship: We are seeking a self-directed, spiritually mature leader to oversee discipleship and small group ministries: including Bible study groups, affinity groups, contemplative groups and other discipleship ministries. This person will eventually oversee Connections and Next Generations staff, and report to the Lead Pastor.

Responsibilities include:

• Develop, implement, and evaluate a discipleship pathway for adults at COS.
• Recruit, develop, resource, and coach group leaders.
• Support contemplative worship and centering prayer experiences.
• Create new spiritual formation events, retreats, activities, online ministries, and other creative expressions of creating Christian community.
• Supervise other staffing and collaborate with other ministry areas.

Qualifications:

• Mature Christian faith (actively following Jesus for longer than 5+ years), with active participation in various spiritual formation groups.
• Self-motivator, strong communicator, good collaborator, and excellent delegator.
• Relatable to all kinds of people, able to build effective relationships, and communicate effectively interpersonally and corporately.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
• Strong computer skills.

Job Type: Full-time with benefits. Salary negotiable based on experience.
