About the Lead Pastor Role
Summary Purpose
- The Lead Pastor is responsible for leading Victory Church in the implementation of a Christ-centered mission and vision, with a particular emphasis on winning souls to Christ.
- The Lead Pastor is the primary teacher/preacher of the church.
- The Lead Pastor works closely with the elders, deacons, staff, and leadership of Victory Church to implement strategic plans for the mission of the church, “Leading people to Christ and developing them in Christ.”
- The Lead Pastor sets the example for building relationships, working to spiritually strengthen members and attendees through preaching, teaching, vision-casting, prayer, and providing oversight as we seek to help move people toward a deeper relationship
with Christ and one another.
Personal Qualifications—The Pastor will:
- Be able to give testimony to his love for the Lord and call to pastoral ministry.
- Be a devoted follower of Jesus whose life reflects the gifts and the fruit of the Spirit.
- Be an emotionally healthy person who loves people and can create and sustain positive relationships with them.
- Consistent spiritual and moral character and lifestyle, fulfilling the Biblical leadership qualifications of an elder described in I Timothy 3:1-7 and in Titus 1:5-9.
Professional Competencies—The Pastor will be:
- An inspiring communicator, able to craft and deliver biblical and relevant sermons that effectively speak to both new and maturing Christians.
- A devoted liturgist who enjoys planning and participating in corporate worship services.
- A proactive organizational leader with experience guiding a congregation into a new season of ministry, one that includes effective engagement with residents in the community.
- A loving shepherd whose care for the spiritual well-being of both seekers and saved is characterized by grace and humility while being strengthened by discernment and prayer.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Preaching/Teaching—the Pastor is responsible for the bulk of the preaching and will have opportunities to teach.
- Equipping/Encouraging—the Pastor will form relationships with the hope of equipping the saints for the work of the ministry and encouraging them in their walk with the Lord.
- Corporate Worship—the Pastor is responsible for coordinating and collaborating with the worship staff in the planning and delivery of engaging worship services.
- Leadership/Management—the Pastor will partner with the Board towards the development and implementation of a compelling vision and mission for the future of the congregation.
- Pastoral Care—the Pastor will provide timely spiritual direction and pastoral care for those seeking baptism, profession of faith, marriage, healing, and encouragement, as well as for those suffering the loss of loved ones.
- Public Presence—the Pastor has the privilege of representing the congregation in the broader community.
ACCOUNTABILITY
- The Pastor is accountable to the Board of Victory Church who are under the authority of Jesus Christ and the Word of God. The Board of Victory Church is comprised of the Elders, Deacons and Lead Pastor, and are the final authority within this local Church.
- The position description will be reviewed annually by the Board.
- Other issues relating to the position are described in the Victory Church Constitution and By-Laws.
