CHURCH PROFILE 

Faith Community Church (FCC) is a thriving church with a current average attendance of about 1300 in beautiful Hudson, WI, an affluent area just outside of the Twin Cities. Starting as a church plant about 30 years ago, FCC has continued to expand its reach into the city and across the world. The local community features excellent schools, abundant sports and outdoor activities, beautiful surroundings, and a health-conscious culture.? FCC is voluntarily affiliated with Converge, a movement of churches working to help people?meet,know and follow Jesus.

POSITION SUMMARY 

The mission of Faith Community Church is to glorify God while making more and better disciples of Jesus. In pursuit of this mission, we are equally committed to sharing the love and truth of Jesus with those who do not know him and cultivating spiritual growth and maturity in those who do. The Student Ministries Pastor bears primary responsibility for fulfilling this mission with students (middle school and high school) and their families in our community. In summary, the Student Ministries Pastor: 1) provides spiritual and organizational leadership for The Refuge (FCC’s ministry to 6th-12th graders) 2) creates opportunities for students to know, love and follow Jesus, 3) encourages and equips parents to be spiritual leaders, and 4) raises up teams and leaders to do the work of student discipleship. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Spiritual and Organizational Leadership 

  • Live out an authentic growing, healthy relationship with Jesus that sets an example for those we serve and aligns with the mission and beliefs of FCC 
  • Consistently cast and implement a clear and compelling vision for Refuge that reflects Jesus’ call to make disciples and aligns all activities with FCC’s vision and priorities 
  • Motivate and mobilize students and volunteers to experience Jesus in a gospel-inspired life by putting their faith in Jesus, pursuing him daily through spiritual habits, aligning their lives with his love and truth, building healthy relationships, and serving others 
  • Cultivate a culture where students of all backgrounds are welcomed without condemnation and lovingly called to follow Christ in every area of their life 
  • Demonstrate a faithful, authentic pastoral presence among students and families in the church and community for care, discipleship, crisis response, and outreach  
  • Define, document, and track annual, quarterly, and weekly goals for programs and events that effectively fulfill FCC’s mission and priorities 
  • Manage and lead Refuge staff to include but not limited to hiring, scheduling, distribution of duties, coaching, training, performance reviews, discipline and termination when necessary 
  • Ensure procedural tasks are completed in a timely manner, such as annual planning, ministry evaluations, room and resource reservations, calendaring, budgeting, expense tracking, supply distribution, etc.  
  • Manage systems and policies for newcomer follow-up, assimilation, safety protocols, and ministry promotions (including social media) 
  • Collaborate with other NextGen staff to ensure a cohesive approach to ministry from  birth through high school  

Create Opportunities for Students to Know, Love and Follow Jesus 

  • Lead, plan, and ensure high quality ministry programs and events that provide pathways for relational discipleship (with student attendance/engagement at 15% - 20% of onsite weekend attendance) that includes: 
  • Weekly large group services/gatherings where students can learn to celebrate and express their love for God through music, prayer, and spiritual experiences with creative excellence and authenticity while also having fun together 
  • Weekly small groups and mentoring relationships where students take the next step in their spiritual journey and build community with other students and adults 
  • Special events, camps and service trips that foster community and move students to take the next step in their spiritual journey 
  • Opportunities to participate in a Student Leadership Team with structured, ongoing, in-depth discipleship that prepares students to be Christian leaders and strong advocates for the Kingdom of God  
  • Service and leadership opportunities that mobilize a high percentage of students to serve in our church, community, and the world at large. 
  • Strategic connections between student ministry and the larger church experience 
  • Develop and communicate biblical teachings with excellence, relevance, creativity, humor, and helpfulness that align with the beliefs and teachings of FCC 
  • Maintain a scope and sequence that anchors all teachings in key repeatable values and truths - with a goal of aligning at least 2 series a year with the larger church  
  • Collaborate with other family ministries staff (as needed) to create high quality transitions between age-based ministries that act as spiritual milestones while introducing and integrating students and their parents into their new programs 

Encourage and equip parents to be spiritual leaders 

  • Establish strong relationships with parents and serve as their go-to person for student related issues 
  • Communicate regularly with parents to celebrate wins, promote upcoming events, share parenting tips, and/or keep them informed of teachings in Refuge, 
  • Develop or provide resources that equip parents to be spiritual leaders in their family 
  • Offer shared spiritual experiences where parents and students draw closer to each other and to God 

Raise up teams and leaders who move students toward Christ 

  • Develop volunteer teams and processes that are effective and sustainable including 
  • A multi-layered leadership pipeline with developed and documented training (e.g., manuals, volunteer job descriptions, security and safety procedures, etc.) 
  • Regular huddles for training, inspiration, and community building (at least quarterly) 
  • Strategies for volunteer care, retention, and appreciation 
  • Recruit, develop, and care for volunteers who 
  • Embrace and implement the priorities and strategies of Refuge 
  • Commit to serving weekly with a vision for staying with students through graduation  
  • Cultivate authentic relationships with students and between students that result in authentic, biblical community 
  • Develop/enforce policies and procedures that ensure the safety of all students  

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

Essential Education/Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required 
  • Minimum of three years working within a student ministry of at least 75, including regular speaking opportunities. 
  • Minimum of three years recruiting, training, and leading volunteers. 

Preferred Experience 

  • Track record of growing a student ministry in attendance and spiritual maturity 
  • Three years leading a student ministry of 100+ 
  • Three years experience managing staff

  • Proficient computer skills, experience with or ability to learn Mac software 
  • Strong and effective communicator – both verbal and written – with excellent customer service skills 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously under time constraints 
  • Dependable, responsible and self-motivated – shows initiative and work ethic in both addressing problems and pursuing improvement within the ministry
