Christmas Valley Community Church Youth Pastor

Christmas Valley, Oregon

Our Church

Christmas Valley Community Church is a non-denominational body of believers located in the spectacular High Desert of Central Oregon. We are a lively, elder-led, multi-generational and mission-minded congregation that values biblical teaching, worship, community, and service. We embrace the historical, orthodox faith as described in our Statement of Faith. Our corporate faith in the saving power of the Gospel drives our ministries in our community and around the world.

We believe commitment to obedience of the Great Commission is the lifeblood of a thriving church, so we encourage ministry involvement across all age groups. Along with various local ministry opportunities we also provide annual opportunities to serve abroad. Our connection to what God is doing through the local church here and across international borders helps fuel our focus and passion for Jesus Christ, His Gospel, and His Church.

Our regular Sunday attendance is around 180. Many of our folks are long-time residents but our community is experiencing a recent influx that has brought many new folks our way.

We have been blessed with a long period of significant youth ministry that has reached a vast number of young people in our community. We currently minister to 30-40 Junior High and High School students in addition to a large group of elementary school children. It is a high priority of our church to see our youth integrated more deeply into the ministry of the church here and abroad and to bring their friends here and the world to Christ.

Our Community

Christmas Valley is a surprisingly diverse community that has seen steady growth in population and services over the past decade. It is a blend of farmers, ranchers, local business owners, government workers, retirees, and those seeking to escape the urban hustle. The diversity in our local population is both a blessing and challenge to effective ministry, one that we continually strive to address.

Members of our church are deeply involved in the various activities that serve our broader area including Emergency Medical Services, our local School Board, law enforcement, school and community sports, and vocational groups.

Our surroundings offer ample outdoor-life activities such as hunting, fishing, ATV trails, and about any other activity the great Northwest has to offer. World-class skiing and pristine lakes are a short drive from Christmas Valley. Our proximity to Bend allows for box-store shopping and fine dining, yet we are far enough away from the city to maintain our rural character and culture. Those who live here love the Valley and are blessed to call it home.

 Job Description

  • Youth Pastor - Full Time Position
  • Salary:  Depends on Experience
  • Assist Pastor and Elders in reaching, teaching, and shepherding our church and community youth for Christ.
  • Housing: available at reasonable rent

 Tasks Overview

We believe youth ministry is an essential component of CVCC’s mission to reach our families, our community and, by extension, the world. Our youth program is the vehicle the Holy Spirit uses to introduce young people to Jesus Christ, grow them in their faith, and prepare them to find and follow God’s will for their lives.

Because we believe union with a local body is vitally important to a sustained life of service and fulfillment in Christ, we strive to provide an environment that draws our youth toward Christ and His mission, and toward deeper fellowship with our family in Christ.

To accomplish this, the Youth Pastor’s work should revolve around four primary responsibilities:

Teach

  • Lead/Facilitate weekly High School, Junior High Youth Groups
  • Lead/Facilitate High School and Jr High Sunday School
  • Lead/Facilitate Junior High and High School Vacation Bible School

 Disciple

  • Spend purposeful time with students outside of organized meetings
  • Lead off-site Spring and Fall Retreats
  • Attend Summer Camp
  • Position himself in the broader community to meet and pursue relationships with those outside the church body

Organize

  • Spring and Fall Retreats
  • Junior High and High School Vacation Bible School
  • Recruit youth to attend Summer Camps
  • Recruit volunteers to assist in camp and various areas of ministry

Grow

  • He should desire to grow in his own maturity as a follower of Christ
  • Maintain and deepen a walk with God by personal study and prayer
  • Regularly meet with Pastor for encouragement and accountability
  • Develop one’s teaching and ministry skills
  • By attending Conferences
  • Through Bible and ministry courses (Paid for by CVCC)

Job Qualifications

Foremost, the candidate should possess the godly character of a church elder as described in 1 Timothy 3. He should be able to flex his scheduling and re-prioritize his activities amid what can be a fluid cultural context. We desire a servant who walks in humility among those over him and among those whom he serves. He should be self-aware and strive to connect not only with the youth in the church, but with the wide variety of ages and backgrounds in our body.

He should be able to articulate his sense of calling to this role. As a leader of the church youth, he will be both a disciple and a disciple-maker. The Youth Pastor should be willing and able to clearly communicate Scripture in an appropriate and engaging fashion. This may involve various means, such as the use of an established curriculum, topical studies, or exegetical teaching. This is a critical focus of his ministry and one he should embrace and pursue passionately.

In fitting with our church history and local culture, we desire the wife of the Youth Pastor to be supportive and, to a degree, part of the Youth Ministry. While we are hiring her husband, we would expect the Youth Pastor’s wife to be willing to be available to minister to the group, and especially our girls, on a regular basis.

The head pastor, elders and other staff are all invested to the success of our youth and the Youth Pastor. The Youth Pastor will be asked to join us in membership for the purpose of mutual accountability. And we encourage him to hold a current passport and be ready to travel on mission trips as those opportunities arise.
