Job Description for the Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry

Our Vision:

Hackberry Creek Church is committed to sharing Jesus Christ with others and growing as His disciples. We aim to create an intergenerational community where everyone feels welcome, connected, loved, and inspired to dive deeper into their faith.  Our church is currently home to congregations from three different continents.  Our hope and prayer is that at some point in our future, we’ll all be worshipping together.  We believe this vision may be realized first and most fully by the Youth and Young Adults of our Church.

Youth Vision

As you grow into our church family, we want you to help the church minister to our youth and young adults by inviting them to join you in this ministry.  As Jesus encourages us to be “yoked to Him”, in a similar way, we want you to activate the Body to minister with you, to youth and young adults.

 Who We're Looking For:

We’re on the search for a dynamic, energetic, and passionate Director of the Youth & Young Adult Ministry (DYYAM) who’s all about empowering our youth and growing them as disciples of Jesus Christ. If you're ready to dive into authentic relationships with students and the Hackberry Creek Church (HCC) family, we'd love to meet you!

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Getting Creative: Plan and lead awesome retreats, trips, monthly special ministry opportunities, and regular weekly events like Sunday School and Youth Bible Study/Worship, plus, facilitate young adult activities.
  • Connecting: Being more than a smiling church face – “know and be known”.  Engage with our students and young adults outside of the church walls to become personally connected.  Showing up to their extracurricular activities (basketball, football, volleyball, choir, concerts, etc.), having lunch at their school or close to where they work are just a couple of ideas.  It is also important to be present at the HCC weekly gathering/assembly to build and foster relationships as we all draw closer to God.
  • Leading with Heart: Inspire, train, and coordinate with church members to create a Youth Ministry Team and a Young Adult Group that's ready to support each other.   Encouraging both the youth and young adults to lead and support each other at their events and in their own lives - not just relying on church leadership.
  • Staying Organized: Manage the budget, plan the calendar, and keep everything running smoothly - to the best of your ability (don’t worry, help is always close at hand as needed!)
  • Building for The Future: Create a sustainable youth ministry through passion and collaboration for future youth and volunteers.
  • Growing Professionally: Attend conferences and classes for continued education plus professional development and growth in this role.

Who We're Looking For:

  • Christ-Lover & People-Person: You love Jesus and keep Him at the center of your life (not forgetting the Lord and Holy Spirit too). You care about faith, people and relationships.
  • Passionate and Seriously Fun: You LOVE connecting with the Youth and Young Adults and can speak their language. You create opportunities for them to grow in their relationship with the Lord while connecting with each other.
  • A Strong Leader: You can inspire, plan and encourage other church members to help and activate the larger vision of our Body where you direct the church in how to minister to its youth and lead us in doing that.
  • Real & Inclusive: Genuine and welcoming to all
  • Trustworthy & Accountable: A desire to earn the respect of the young adults, students and their parents plus have an ability to work collaboratively and effectively with the HCC session (elders) and staff
  • Education & Experience: Got a Bachelor's Degree or working on it?  Do you have 2-3 years of experience with youth? Even better!
  • Humble & Ready to Learn: Be a continual learner, self-motivated to study, learn and grow

Note: This isn't a set-in-stone description; it's a guide. Your unique gifts and the evolving needs of HCC may lead to some additions and/or revisions.

 The Nuts and Bolts!
