                Our Mission: The mission of Ithaca Church of God is to be a people in pursuit of a great commitment to the great commandment and the great commission to grow a great church.

                Ithaca Church of God is a small church in Ithaca, Michigan. We run an average of 100-125 every Sunday. Our church has a great mix of individuals that span across 6 generations. We live in a small community of less than 3,000 people. Ithaca is a quiet town and a great place to raise a family.

                We are looking for an Associate Pastor of Family Ministries to assist our church in continuing our mission. This person will work directly with the Senior Pastor. This person shall adhere to the Biblical model for marriage and family. A person with one spouse of the opposite sex. Ideally, we are looking for someone who is married with children.

 

Job Description:

  • A born-again, baptized believer, in agreement with the Church of God’s mission, vision, values and beliefs.
  • Someone who embraces evangelical tradition, believing that the Church of Jesus is the hope for individuals, our community and the world.
  • Someone who will present the Gospel in a way that is culturally relevant and Biblically pure.
  • One who understands and embraces the role of equipping the Body of work of ministry.
  • Someone who will champion support for the total Church program of stewardship, worship, missions, fellowship and education.
  • Someone who is willing to serve as an empowering leader of the Ithaca Church of God.
  • Someone who will have an active present in the community, is flexible, adaptable and approachable.

 

Primary Roles:

The Associate Pastor of Family Ministries will…

  • Work in harmony with and under the direction of the Senior Pastor
  • Serve as a pastor/spiritual leader at Ithaca Church of God in accordance with Scriptural qualifications, mandates and guidelines (for example see Titus 1, 1 Tim. 3, 1 Peter 5, Acts 20, Heb 13:17, etc).
  • To have a firm grasp on and commitment to advance the Kingdom of God through the visions, values, strategies and plans of Ithaca Church of God.
  • Train and equip God’s people to do the work of the ministry.
  • Lead and Oversee ministries from birth to graduation.
  • Partner with and equip Parents to teach and raise their children.
  • YOUTH MINISTRY:
    • The Associate Pastor will teach and lead the youth ministry as the primary Pastor.
    • They will create events that draw teenagers into a fun, engaging and, most importantly, Biblically based environment.
    • Recruit and train volunteers to assist with the youth ministry.
    • Hold regular meetings with volunteers.
    • Youth group meets on Sunday evenings from 6-8pm.
    • Sunday school meets on Sunday mornings at 9:30am.
    • Attend school events, including sports, musical, graduation, etc.
    • Attend Church of God events, such as the International Youth Conference.
  • CHILDREN’S MINISTRY
    • Oversee the children’s ministry, including nursery, preschool and school age classes on Sunday mornings.
    • Recruit and train volunteers for the ministry.
    • Hold regular meetings with volunteers.
    • Assist with the planning, organizing and carrying out of the VBS program. Our VBS is a collection of multiple churches around town that work together to put on one main VBS.
    • Oversee and lead Wednesday night Kids Quest during the school year
  • FAMILY MINISTRY
    • Work alongside the Senior Pastor to plan and organize events that will bring families together.
    • Recruit volunteers to assist with events.
  • PASTORAL
    • Preach on occasion when the Senior Pastor is unable to be at service.
    • Meet with the Senior Pastor once a week.
    • Attend the Stewardship Council meeting once a month.
    • Prepare annual budgets for your ministries.
    • Attend the Annual Business Meeting.
    • Attend conferences for the Church of God.
    • Assist the Senior Pastor in overall programming of the church, aid in special projects, and implement specific assignments by the Senior Pastor related to general pastoral activities.
    • Go for coffee with the Senior Pastor as needed
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor.

 

Qualifications:

  • A growing, personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • A teachable spirit.
  • A definite call to ministry, specifically Family Ministry.
  • A person of prayer.
  • Ability to preach and teach the Word of God with the boldness of the Holy Spirit.
  • 3-5 years of experience in children, youth and/or family ministries preferred.
  • Associates Degree in a Bible or Ministry related field preferred.

About Ithaca Church of God

Church of God Demographic Profile Revised - Under 20 - 50; 21-34 years- 30; 35-44  years - 33; 45-64 years  - 31; 65-79 years - 66.  The church is currently made up of 6 different generations.  The governance structure consists of a stewardship with one representative of each ministry of the church.  Each ministry consists of a team of others.

Our mission is to love God, love one another, and love our community.  We consider the "Great Commandment" and the "Great Commission" as our motivation for all our ministries.

Natural Church Development Survey 2022

When I looked at our latest NCD survey I was so pleased to see how much progress we had made under our Pastor Whitesel's empowering leadership.  Which means missional outreach needs new focus.  The last survey we took (2022) was one of over 84,000 NCD surveys of international churches.  The improvement we have made in our churches health, subsequent to our previous NCD, is evident based upon the international average of 50.  

Those average and above:  Effective structure form 28-56; Empowering leadership from 33-52; Loving relationship from 36-53; Need oriented evangelism from 36-51; Inspiring worship from 44-50; Passionate spirituality from 45-62; Gift oriented ministry from 45-58

The transition to the new governance model which was our old minimum factor has certainly qualitatively changed the health of our church a well impacted quantitative growth.  Our new minimum factors appear to be inspiring worship and need oriented evangelism.
